I went to Orlando for ICast and had some free time. I called my old buddy Dan who now lives in Osprey, Florida, which is about a two hour drive from Orlando. We decided to take his boat out and do a little Intracoastal water fishing. His house is approx 300 yards from the water, and his access to daily fishing made me a tad jealous. We went to a local sporting good store to pick up some baits, mainly WTD topwater lures. We explained to the gentleman behind the counter that we were fishing for bigger Snook and he gave us a few spots to try after dark. Funny how those snook are attracted to dock lights. We had quite a time but never caught any big ones. I will go back soon!

Jacks fight like crazy!  I still have not caught one.  Several people with me have including my wife

That was a 16” or so and fought like a 5 pound bass...it was incredible

Nice Mitch! Even though not a big snook sure that it was a blast to catch. You have already mentioned how fun that jack was to fight. That size would have made great goliath grouper bait. Imagine what a 20 lb permit or african pompano would be like😁.

I had a very big, 35-40” Snook swipe at my topwater right by the boat, my buddies eyes 👀 were wide open and his jaw dropped...I actually thought it was a Tarpon. I’m so new to this and have no idea if permit or pampano are in this area!

African pompano are on the east coast from West Palm and south. Permit can be found along the coast but typically in the Keys.

Them are nice fish, but that boat!  I am envious.   I love the idea of a raised platform, and standing while driving.  I will get there , just gonna take a bit.

I love those skiffs too.  I amost traded for one a couple years ago that would have been perfect for fly-fishing these flats, but me and the owner just couldn't agree on numbers.   I hope he blows a gearcase or a powerhead someday soon and then we can sit down with a beer and a checkbook and work things out a little better.  😂

I agree Daryk. I always thought those were the perfect fishing boat.
