Well Arkansas just announced the closing of all schools through spring break.  I would think it will be a lot longer than that.

Something else in good old Arkansas is that the first COVID patient here was put in ICU.  Three of the medical people (including a doctor) that were treating that patient in the ICU now have tested positive.  Maybe their ICU containment procedures were not followed correctly, or this stuff is pretty darn aggressive and hard to contain.  I don't know, hopefully just a random event.

According to my wife the same thing in STL

Check out this video of the Wuhan market in China where all this started... pretty disturbing.
And then wonder where this crap came from. They eat dogs, cats, rats, bats and whatever else in unsanitary conditions.
They say the virus started with bats and they seem to love them although the Chinese Government claims they don't sell bats at the Wuhan market.
Look at 1.28 of the video. Those aren't squirrels.

If you want updates from around the country, check out the BBC Lounge forum.  Yeah there's a knucklehead or two (including me) on that board, but it's interesting to see what is going on around the US.

I just learned that the state of Illinois is closing all state parks and boat ramps and will not let any planned events happen (think tournaments).

The governor of PA is calling for a closure of bars and dining in at restaurants (still allowing take out).

There seems to be a follow the leader aspect to all of these closings, once a state or two does it, they all start doing it.

Have we reached the Apex of fear yet? Critical Mass? Tipping point? Or is this just the beginning?

Looking at what went down in Italy, we should be restricted. “The right thing” is too subjective and often not done by the masses here. Look at the store shelves and fools thinking Chinese food is a cause.

They claim the Chinese wet markets are the cause (where it all began), but they've been doing that disgusting crap forever.    It shouldn't have taken this long for a virus related to that, to start an epidemic.

Im still unable to settle on how this will shake out! is it worse than Swine??? (my gut says yes)...the media/corporate giants/and our billionaire friends have fled for their bunkers......their response would say (yes). Let us peons trudge through muck being wreaked by this Virus.

However the numbers dont seem to match with the response then vs now.....2009-10 60+ million infected and 300k hospitalized and children dying when the swine flu hit (stock market didn't crash, shutdowns didn't happen) The numbers we have now are not even comparable to the same time in 2009-2010... Why is that? (I'm trying to internalize this)

What I am seeing in China and Italy and Spain and elsewhere (Lisbon, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands) I have friends in all those places. This is ugly...but the compared response is peculiar and seems off just based on the numbers.

This is going to shake out however it shakes out but something smells off in how specific the global response is and has been so far.
Seems almost by the book spelled out in Bill Gates 2019 SARS Pandemic conference on Global Pandemics. Funny how this is called SARS COV II in epidemiological circles.

Social media wasn’t has prolific back them so the hype wasn’t as great.  Plus swine flu reared it’s head a lot earlier and when you got it you knew a lot sooner. COVID19 doesn’t show symptoms for up to 10-14 days in some people. And some people don’t even get symptoms but can still spread it to those that are more susceptible.  Looking at what is going on in Italy this virus isn’t playing around although there are probably more smokers per capital there than here.  And being a much smaller country population densities are greater.  Additionally look at how they greet each other.  They kiss everyone on the cheek instead of handshaking.

In the past we had Chicken pox party's, most of us(over 50ish) made it.  Maybe we should gang up and get it over with.  Plus I think the fish slime might work.

moguy mentioned social media.  I thought about that yesterday.  What would the situation be if this was 1990? Would it even be an issue? Any "news" would be limited to national news at 5 or the local news at 6, and maybe an article on page 3 of the newspaper.

QB mentioned the lounge over at BBC.  There sure is a lot of different perspectives over there, but you do get a good oversight of fisherman from the rest of the country(for what that's worth)

Social Distancing - I have been getting better and better at that each year since I retired.

Seriously, what is the end game of all this?
