So since y'all think I'm ignorant about just about everything anyway, I figure this is the best place to ask.... What does China have that we really need? What would be the ramifications of we completely closed our borders to the Chinese, cut them off entirely, and stopped all communication and trade with them? In short, why must we even maintain a relationship (good, bad, or otherwise) with them? Why can't the U.S. just say "piss on you, we're done, have a good life, goodbye"? I've rethought my answer. Thermonuclear war is a distinct possibility in the totally unlikely event of anything like what you suggest actually happening.
MOPanfisher Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 There have been several uprising, revolts etc in China, but you are very much correct in a totalarian government seldom does a change of power change much except for the ones in charge, Russia has done the same, some smaller uprisings some larger with little to jo overall change. It is extremely difficult for a people with thousands if years of subjication to step up and make a complete overall change, if not impossible. History is a very good tea her in that regard. I don't think a nuear war is very likely due to the ramifications, however if there was a government that thought they could pull it off and win with only losing half their population and still do it, China would be a good bet. We have moves on a lot from our massive nuear arsenal but will never be rid of it simply because of places like china, North Korea, and to a much lesser extent Russia, India and Pakistan, who would happily nuke each other if they could get away with it. Wars are almost always started by the losing side in the end, although historically many wars of conquest (Romans, gwrmans, dewnchHuns, spanish, english, American, Japan, etc, nearly every major country has had at leat one) have resulted in some periods of world domination and a lot of money being made, which in the end is often what wars are about, Armed Robbery on a Large scale.
wily Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 I think it’s happening...China is pulling their money out of the us market...and we are scrambling to prop it back up that’s what the stimulus package is about...government is trying to replace the Chinese investment. Placate the little guy with a little walk around money...and prop up the market so the big money can cover some bets itll get worse before it gets better...and Congress is standing by with stimulus package number xyz to rescue us poor citizens from the turmoil...but the rescue isn’t designed to help the little guy itll result in hyper inflation...and then those free dollars will only be good to wipe your arse with...it’s ironic that the average us citizen sees this as a toilet paper shortage

fishinwrench Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 If people, businesses, (or countries) can't get along and work peacefully together then they shouldn't even associate with one another. Greed is the problem, and it shouldn't be tolerated by either side. If China doesn't value their association with the U.S., which they obviously don't, then why are we still hanging on. It appears to me that either we, or they, are acting like the girlfriend that just refuses to get a clue and move on.

Quillback Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 China is invested in the US, they own about $1 trillion in US government debt and we run a $350 billion annual trade deficit with them. That debt props up the Yuan, if the US dollar plunges in value, Chinese good become more expensive, thus it is in their best interests to have a healthy US economy so we keep buying their stuff at relatively low prices. It is not in their best interest to have our economy tank. They understand the value of their relationship with the US, it's a mistake to think that they don't. China has now become a net importer of food, in other words they can't feed themselves on their own domestic production. We have the world's best transportation network to get farm products moved to market including getting it to China. They are dependent on us to make up that food shortfall. There's also oil and coal which China imports. No need to be scared of the Chinese, in some ways we have them by the short hairs. We need to really work on our trade relationship with China, it's time for a change. nomolites, BilletHead and ness 3
