Went to the Bass Pro in Rogers to get some early spring essentials. Couldn’t find any Spro crankbaits or jerkbaits. Asked the store associate where they were and he said Bass Pro doesn’t sell them anymore. I was completely shocked. I actually asked if he knew how big of a deal Spro was in this area. He knew well, agreed and said he was shocked too. He was a good company guy but you could tell he was frustrated with things. I’ve been a Bass Pro customer since their only store was in Springfield. To see what they’ve become is disturbing. The way they’ve bought boat companies and closed them, decreasing  competition. Their continued focus on BPS brand fishing rods, reels and lures... Just try to find a quality rod in that place these days. They aren’t there.  I really wish they returned to their roots and realized who made them successful. In the meantime, they will continue selling flannel shirts and vacations packages to the casual shopper. Glad we have some good local tackle shops that care about our business. Ok I’m done with my diatribe. Hope everyone has a good week!

Went to pick up some Rock Crawlers yesterday in Springfield and i couldnt believe they quit carrying them either.  Academy has a horrible selection of them.  I decided ill just throw a wart this year instead. They get hung half as much and are half the price.  I guess Bass Pro actually saved me money for once

$3 to make and $75 to sell there is a lot more money in shirts. And if you buy up and close down all competition, it won't matter if you sell goods or garbage, the only girl in town is the one most popular.

They have them out at Lew’s.  That is where I had to go.

It's weird because McClelland has both BPS and Cabela's as a sponsor.  You'd think they'd have his product in their stores.

Thats true, just way out there for me.  One of the best little secret tackle shops is Sport Boats USA in Nixa,  They have a really good selection now days. And there is never a crowd

Bass Pro and Walmart have some strict and quite frankly scary contracts to sign. At Walmart you are typically responsible for returned items. Also if your product doesn’t sell in that region, you have to buy it back. That could break a company if you weren’t prepared. You’re basically putting your product on consignment.

Not to mention their payment terms will likely be 90 days and they will probably not pay until 120 days but your still shipping millions of units to keep them in stock.

Better have a great line of credit and good margins or be swimming in cash beforehand.

I no a guy that had a small business making items locally.  He signed a deal with Walmart and went out of business shortly thereafter.  Couldn't keep up and the margins were so small it just didn't work.
