I have traded a couple of emails on here with guys that use them. I certainly have a high regard for there fishing opinion. I am about 99% sure I am going to pull the trigger on this, this year. Kind of waiting to see if there will be a new product upgrade or maybe some kind of sale in the spring.. But given what Bill said. I don't see any kind of sale coming. There is some offers of a $200.00 mail in rebate.

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???B)

I'm still clinging to my antiquated (8 years old) Humminbirds.  One of these days I'll probably pull the trigger on an upgrade myself.

I got mine from Russel marine in Kansas. They had a 10 percent off deal and the $200 rebate, with no tax and free shipping

They still do the job, I still have a old 1197 at my console and like it a lot

Thanks for the info, I like my Birds and I've stared at them for so long that I have become pretty good at understanding what they are showing me, and that's one of the things that keeps me from pulling the trigger on an upgrade.

Dang - 20K?

Pretty sure my first Ranger was under 4K!

Of course it had a paper graph and flasher so there's that.......

Posts like this make me realize just how blessed I was that a young sportswriter and a blossoming Arkansas pro who needed publicity crossed paths back in the early 80s. That guy, who became a great friend and went on to win two Bassmaster Classics and a Forrest Wood Cup, taught me that even on Ozarks lakes, there's a relatively shallow bite year-round. You just have to know where to look and have the patience and faith to figure it out. A little bull-headedness doesn't hurt either. 😁

Like Quill, I have two old 900 series Birds and a Lowrance 5 HDS and they serve my purposes just fine. I'll keep the $20K for other needs.
