oneshot Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 I was reading an article about Spring Turkey hunting and what I got out of it was basically leave your calls at home. Said most Toms learn fast to not Gobble. So know which way they are going and shoot them coming through. oneshot
MOPanfisher Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Everybody has their own favorite way of turkey hunting. Mine is to load up the boat and go crappie fishing instead. Flysmallie and fishinwrench 1 1
jdmidwest Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Calling too much will shut some up and fire up others. Go out and take a nap after making a few calls. They will be pecking at your toes when you wake up just to mess with you. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

fishinwrench Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 I was big-time into turkey hunting for about 12 years. Never once did I "call one in" unless you can count the one time that a tom kept getting closer everytime we slammed the truck tailgate. 4 slams over a 2 hour period moved him over 100 yards and finally into range. Locating them on the roost late in the evening, then sneaking in on them before daylight the following morning was my most productive technique, both Spring and Fall. Old dog 417, tho1mas and Gavin 3

Have you guys seen these guys walk in on them hiding behind a picture of of a tom or fan tail? Pretty wild.
fishinwrench Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Yeah that's cool as hell. I wouldn't advise it on public land though. 😅 snagged in outlet 3 and Terrierman 1 1

Pretty wild. That was came up many years ago and hunters decided it was just too dang dangerous. So what changed? Me I go by the fact I don’t see any Strutting in the Fields anymore and very few tracks. I was doing a Gobble count for the MDC, it got to where it was a joke never hearing a one in an area on a ridge use to hear hundreds. I’ve killed many over the years but not worth the time anymore. oneshot

I've never eaten crow or buzzard but I doubt that anyone could tell the difference between either of those and a wild turkey, once cooked.
