mixermarkb Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 In all honesty, what I'm saying BassPastor, is while they are a good bait, don't run out of keitechs and let that get in your head. They aren't magic. No bait is. If you found fish on a type of structure and location, keep fishing them, and keep trying to duplicate the pattern. If you are out of small swimbaits, throw grubs. If you don't have grubs, throw a Ned. If you don't have a Ned, break out a Crig French Fry or lizard. Often times, I catch fish on a jerkbait while someone in the back seat is tearing them up on small swimbaits or grubs, and pretty often, the jerkbait fish are better quality. There are a lot of mousetraps, and if you are out of one, keeping a positive mental attitude and finding another one that works is key. Too many times I've run out of a bait, or a certain color of bait, and flat psyched myself out of catching fish that I know now I could have caught had I not spun out. ps- you might be surprised what super glue does for a banged up Fat Swing Impact, as well as how many fish you can get out of a fresh one if you seat it to the head with superglue. Members BassPastor Posted April 12, 2020 Author Members Posted April 12, 2020 @mixermarkb good thoughts. Keitechs are undoubtedly a confidence thing for me right now. I have way more patience with a bait when I have a productive history with it. That being said, running low provides good opportunity to challenge myself and try some new things. I do need to add a bottle of superglue to the boat. It was on my list this time but it slipped my mind. Without it, they are lucky to last past one fish. In fact, I was frustrated at the bite of a little dink smallie today because she messed up my last sexy shad Keitech. mixermarkb 1
Quillback Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 For sure you want to superglue those Keitechs to the jig head. I glue them up at home, and you can often repair them too using superglue. I glue grubs too and of course Ned stuff. mixermarkb, dtrs5kprs and liphunter 2 1
vernon Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 If you're buying superglue for the boat (or anywhere else for that matter) you'd better get more like four or five bottles as that stuff can dry up and become worthless faster than most of my favorite fishin' spots. I always have at least six of 'em in the boat but then I'm a little on the sloppy side. The only thing worse than not having superglue is thinking that you do but you don't cause the dang thing dried up. The Gorilla Glue version is pretty good too and I like the little brush applicator thingy (technical term) that comes with it. But again, don't get just one! mixermarkb Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 What Vernon said. I like the blue and gray bottles of LocTite gel, but the yellow tubes of superglue gel from Dollar General work just fine as well, although it seems to take a little it longer to dry on the water. vernon 1

Went to the Loctite bottles years ago, because I was using the tubes on grubs. Had a tube blow up in the pocket of a fish shirt. Good times. abkeenan, mixermarkb and Royal Blue 3
snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 I never could get more than one use out loc tote before it dried up. Gorilla bottle is my 3rd season. Tap the head to get glue in the top. Tap the bottom when done to get glue out of the top. vernon and mixermarkb 2
Quillback Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 I use Loctite gel myself and I don't have the drying up issue, probably because I get my baits done at home and I don't leave the lid off when I'm not using it. I refuse to bring it or the liquid stuff into my boat, that liquid runs like water and I'm afraid at the end of the day I'll end up with my face glued to the carpet. Glue them up the night before you go fishing or a few days in advance and all the issues go away, you can spend your time fishing rather than messing around gluing baits in your boat. dtrs5kprs, m&m, vernon and 2 others 5
snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 I glue mine at home too. Never left the lids off either. I quit on them.
Quillback Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 I can dig it, me, I'm done with the liquid stuff myself, seems I'm always getting it on my fingers or I set a bait down that I've just glued and it leaks and glues itself to whatever I laid it on. My complaint with the gel is that there isn't much of it in those little bottles. snagged in outlet 3 and mixermarkb 2
