Sad news. No excuse but I hope fog is to blame vs just flat out not paying attention, but if it were foggy more reason to slow down. Speed is fun but only in ideal conditions and keep your head on a swivel since most are clueless on nav rules and who is stand on or giveway vessel.

Surely he came off the HOTFOOT as soon as he realized the hit was inevitable.....So to coast completely over a boat by inertia alone?    

I think you'd have to be bookin'.     

Dump the throttle while running wide open and the boat sits down real quickly.   Lots to speculate on. Could have been staring at the big screen in front of him.   The idiots in these big cruisers at night on Lake O will run 100% by GPS, looking at nothing but the mapping screen until they get really close to where they are headed. Especially at night.  You can see their faces glowing from the light of the screen as they go by. 

I'm sure the operator will claim a stuck throttle or steering failure.....which isn't entirely impossible, for sure. 

Around HERE no boat crashes ever make the news unless somebody was .08% BAC.

For those of you that have never been to this location, please keep quiet.  Two row boats could collide here in the right situation and it takes almost nothing for one boat to ride up over the other boat. If your hull is 1 inch higher than the other object momentum is going to take the means of less resistance at most any speed and cause you to lift over the other object, instead of breaking thru it.

This is the case weather the object be a dock another boat a log floating in the water or your trailer at the ramp.  Slick hulled boats are either gliding over the top or airborne, just a matter of physics.

Son Steven and I were there at 9:30 and the MSHP was working the scene.  

This is a hairpin turn by the Emerald Beach ramp just below Viney Creek.  One of the drivers was cutting the hair pin on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD.

The lake is wide enough there to not be a problem, however you can cut the hairpin if you are headed up stream and it looked like this is what happened.  You cannot see around that corner as it is a bluff bank.

Conditions on the lake at the time were wonderful.  No fog, full visibility and beautiful.  Really no boat traffic at all yesterday in the upper white.

  Someone screwed up.  Be just like you or I deciding to get in the truck and go around every inside blind corner or curve on the wrong side of the road.instead of staying in the outside or our own lane.

Terrible shame.

I had heard it was on the turn near Emerald Beach.  Certainly is a place that a driver needs to be wary of when traveling through.

I'm not disagreeing but you'd also be very surprised how many of those big boats have Flir or similar on them so they're looking at those monitors vs plotter and the view is pretty amazing. But yes most are going too fast running blind.

Inside turns like this one can be found on most lakes and all it takes is two drivers trying to cut the corner from opposite directions and a tiny bit of inattention and things can go bad...I try to stay wide or slow way down and peek before proceeding...and that’s because I was luckier than these folks as I earlier in life had a near miss rather than a collision.  Very sad.

2 bass boats collided near Emerald Beach, one boat went over the top of the other, killing both occupants in the boat that was ridden over.  Father and son being the victims.  Don't know how many were in the other boat and to what extent they were injured.

Accident happened around 8 AM.  No fog or anything hampering
