Exactly right.  I'm 71 years old and just took the Coast Guard course and exam.  I took because of a good discount on the insurance on my new boat (could not prove I took the shorter course years ago) and because my 11 year old daughter had to take it to drive a PWC.  The course takes allot of time and 6 chapter tests and one 60 question final test.  It probably takes a total of about 8 hours and you cannot go to the end of each chapter to just take the chapter test and quiz out.  You must view/listen to it all and then click the "next" button.  They are trying to force you to learn.  From all the stupid things I saw of the lake this summer, everyone should be required to take this and then Mo should put at least a dozen officers on TR lake.  As I drive Hwy 13 Branson West to Kimberling City everyday I past at least 2 or 3 cops everyday - Stone County sheriff, MHP, and the city cops, all so they can collect some revenue for folks going a a few mph over the speed limit.   Priorities?

It all comes down to paying attention, slowing the heck down in potentially dangerous situations, and using COMMON SENSE. Of course, it's impossible to use something you don't possess.

You hit the nail squarely on the old head with the comment about the astounding numbers of "Police protection" between BW and KC.  Just incredible to see the numbers of MSHP,  Sheriff, BW and KC cars usually seen in that short distance.  And once the tourists have departed, it's common knowledge that then begin "preying" on the locals....especially KC and BW. 

Some of the daily shenanigans we see on the water out in front of our place during daylight and after sunset during "the season" makes us wonder why and how there are not more collisions and injuries on the water and we seldom see a Water Patrol boat !  Missouri definitely needs more water Officers on TRL....especially if next year is like this Summer was with boat traffic....but the State's budget is smashed due to the darn COVID so that is not gonna' happen.

This is strictly hearsay, but I heard the boat with the father and son turn in front of the other boat at the last second. I heard the driver of the other boat, saw the boat and thought he was going around him. Heard that he never had time to turn the wheel! Who knows, maybe the father had a heart attack or medical condition. I had a friend a few year back that had the same thing happen, except he was in his truck. He met a truck and the driver had a massive heart attack and hit him head on. Both men died in this horrible accident. One reason to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior! In the blink of an eye!

Is this the path you are expecting people to always take?   And would you put your life on it? 

 

The navigation rule that is more certain to fly is, stay on heading, but Slow down and friggin' Pay Attention.  No sense in going a mile out of your way..... you're gonna get there sooner and burn less fuel by staying the course and just being reasonable with your speed.

That would be the worst possible way to take that route

Oh I can think of worse ways, but that seems to be what Babler feels needs to be done by everyone.

I re read everything pretty sure you and Babs agree lol . Maybe your need for internet arguments has gotten the better of you once again .  And just like bill said stay on your side of the lake ...which is your right side . All seems to make sense to me

Or as Phil stated port to port . Which also mean on our lakes the bank should always be closer to your starboard side .
