Gavin Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Never resist a legit request. ID & insurance you betcha, why did you pull me over? They can’t search without a cause and speeding is not a cause to search.
fishinwrench Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Someone put up No Trespassing signs on a gravel bar at my local creek, and I was like "oh no you don't!" So I called the county prosecutor (we know each other) and explained my concerns. He said, just stay in the water, and if by chance a deputy shows up and wants to write me a ticket....just BE NICE, take the ticket, and he'd throw it out when it crossed his desk. I stayed in the water and never had any problems. Several just ignored the signs and fished from the gravel bar. They didn't have any problems either. What needs to be addressed by agents is people putting up signs and purple paint in places that they don't actually own. In the Trespassing case that I plead guilty to I know who called the law....and I also know that he can't prove that he owns the property. He took it by adverse possession, doesn't pay taxes on it, and has no deed. I could have easily beat it, but they wouldn't allow me to represent myself. Had to have an attorney....which is also BS. I had a drug dog go nuts under the seat of my old 99 Silverado over a tater tot that my daughter had dropped between the seats. No apology or anything. I was so pissed.

Yeah I form judgements quickly too. When that dog went apeshit I honestly thought the cop was going to plant something, because I knew there was NOTHING in my truck. I don't trust them one bit.
luckycraft Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I’ve only had one run in with the MO conservation that I had issues with. I was bottom bouncing for walleyes out of a tracker grizzly 1448. Had my yellow lab with me. Great morning. I didn’t even notice them till I hear good morning. Look back and one agent (older nice guy) has his hand on the back gunnel. He checks my smallest crappie aboard and license and all is good. He is ready to take off and I say thanks for what you do. His young counter part says “why are you fishing out of a duck boat?” I’m flabbergasted now. I reply it’s all I have. “Well why do you have a duck dog with ya”. At this point his older gentleman is shaking his head. My calmer minds are losing patience. I reply that’s my family man! He responds “can you name me 4 species of ducks and don’t say mallards! I asked. What you want to hear divers or dabblers. I guess that past his test as the older counterpart said we better let you go before you kick my partners posterior! Geesh!
luckycraft Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I believe conservation agent may have a lot of power. In Montana I know they can detain you (suspicion is cause)

Always been nice and down to business doing the job. Out of state fishing in Montana and Wyoming we were checked. Hunting in Colorado checked by a warden riding a mule. A couple of stories. Around 30 years ago was dove hunting in the morning. Back at the truck was checked for birds. Slow morning and I was shy a few. He counted and checked license. Same for my two friends. So I went back to another field miles away in the afternoon. Finished my limit and back at the truck there was the warden again. He asked for my license and then said I checked you this morning. Got a little sprial notebook out of his pocket. Said at 10 this morning you had a few birds, how many now? I said the rest of my limit. He counted and said well done. Then Fishing in Montana we had our kayaks. Seen a guy way off waving at us on the lake. Then we heard him say paddle over here. We did. Well he checked our license and asked if we had caught anything? Nope and I asked why no luck. He said place gets fished out with each stocking. Said you want to catch a bunch of fish? Yes and he got out a map and said walk into this place. Sawmill lake. Locals too lazy to walk in. We did and caught all kinds of brookies. Nice guy for sure. So I would like to know will any of you fess up about being caught anywhere and issued a citation? Did you deserve it? Was in CO elk hunting up on BLM ground and had a cow as well as a bull tag. Final evening of the hunt a herd of cows comes over a bench toward me and I wait and let them all pass hoping for a bull following, no dice. Settled my crosshairs on the last cow and dropped “her” from about 75 yds. Get up to the elk and find it has little bitty spikes I did not identify as they are shorter than it’s ears. I quarter the animal out and pack it out, including the head, and notified the DOW when I got down the mountain. I was staying a couple extra days in a cabin on the Frying Pan to fish and my wife was meeting me there that evening and I gave them the location. A bit later an agent shows up, writes me a ticket, and confiscates the elk. I wasn’t happy, but I screwed up and told her as much. Politely. Later that night(about 10pm) there is a knock on the cabin door and I answer it...it is the agent. She asks if I still want an elk and I said yes and she said follow me.... I follow her out to the truck and she has a bull in back that someone road hunted...If I want to quarter him out he is mine. I got to work skinning, and she explained that she has rules she has to follow and was required to confiscate my spike but because I self-disclosed mistake and didn’t waste the animal she wanted me to head home with meat from this illegally killed bull. Have run into her into her a couple times since and I still appreciate her. Mike BilletHead, snagged in outlet 3, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 4

The one who checked us in Colorado from the mule was pretty cool. He did his job and then noticed the pile of king boletes I had picked and was getting ready to cook for the guys that had been on this trip. This was a backpack walk in hunt to the north of rocky mountain national park in a wilderness area. He said the scientific name of the kings and then I see you cut them and there is no bases or "roots" attached. You know it is illegal to remove the root system from any picked mushroom in Colorado. I said yes I knew that and removing the mycellum is not a good thing. He then got real friendly and before it was over he took a seat on a rock and I think he answered more questions from us than we did for him. I was the only one too that had bought a small game license with our elk licenses. We all were bowhunting and I had shot some blue grouse with blunts. That was part of supper and one of the guys had taken a few shots at one and he was a nervous wreck. Warden left and I asked my friend why he was so upset. He said I was afraid he was going to ask if I shot one .
