There are lots of them at Grand Lake in Oklahoma, but I think many of those are year-round residents. I see them at all times of the year and all over the lake. That lake has more baitfish than any lake I know, so they have worlds of food. 96 CHAMP 1

I have eaten quail, eastern pheasants, chukars, and I believe huns. I figured that anyone that has had prairie chickens or sage grouse would likely disagree. Now I have specifically stated eastern pheasants. Out this way pheasant pen raised birds and are put and take hunts. I am sure that they are somewhat like stocker trout versus ones that have been in the river for a while or raised in the river. Just my limited experience. More than willing to eat any grouse, Ptarmigan, etc. that you want to send me 😉 Used to run into a covey of huns maybe once or twice a year while chukar hunting, dark meat like a dove. Marinate for 24 hours in Teriyaki marinade, wrap it with bacon, grill and it would be edible. Chukar would usually get the same treatment. Quail are always good, young pheasants are good, but the old birds always got the marinade bacon wrap thing. snagged in outlet 3 and Johnsfolly 2

Pheasants are a close second in the table fare. As far as that loon goes, I attempted to eat a ring neck duck. I imagine something similar. It didn’t go well! It takes a good dog to get a late season KS chicken pointed and I have one that does it a couple of times each year. That being said, I shot my last chicken 20+ years ago, and only shot that one to confirm the godawfull taste of the first one I shot. Johnsfolly and snagged in outlet 3 1 1
Quillback Posted November 10, 2020 Author Posted November 10, 2020 Never have shot or eaten prairie chicken or sage grouse. I have had ruffed grouse which was decent. There were also spruce grouse and blue grouse in Washington state. Never hit one of those or ate one either, but had a couple of shots at them.

jdmidwest Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 There was a single loon on the Current River near the Arkansas border yesterday. I have not run into them on an Ozark River. Interesting sight. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Went to troll for walleye, breeze blowing leaves in water. Could not run jet or lure far without wadding up a bunch of leaves. Hooked one decent fish. Caught a few bass. fishinwrench 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
