snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Another @fishinwrenchfan here. He’s been doing this for years. Although not as technical as boat motors he kept my pond prowler from catching on fire. Not all that important unless you’re the one in it. 😂. I swear the guy at bass pro said to get a 35 pound trolling motor but I figured hey! If 35 is good 55 oughta be better 😁. Till it starting smoking. fishinwrench 1
LD Fisher Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Shouldn't tell this on myself, but. A couple of years ago a friend stopped by the house an asked if I could help him because he couldn't get his outboard started, said he already put a new battery in it but it would just crank and not start. I tried it, pulled the shroud to see if mud dobbers had blocked his intake, but it was clear. I was about ready to go back to the house for some tools when I looked down and saw the kill switch and lanyard laying on the floor! I said shoot, could it be? Sure enough when I plugged it in, it started!! Live and learn! LOL His kids had been playing around in the boat and probably pulled it off. so, it's probably something simple, just takes time to find the problem. Good luck! nomolites and abkeenan 2

Was willing to pay ANYTHING to get it going again. When I got to his place he was sitting on the dock alone with a drink in his hand, depressed, and drunker than Cooter Brown. I looked it over and YEP, KILL SWITCH MISSING. I asked where the lanyard was, but of course he had no idea. I ran up to the truck, grabbed one, and sure enough the ol' Evinrude came immediately to life. I looked over at the guy and he was crying like a baby, and couldn't even control himself. I said, "no worries buddy, we've all done it". He reached in his pocket and handed me a giant wad of Benjamin's. I was like, no no no 60.00 and we're good, I'm glad it was that easy.......But he wouldn't have it. He goes into this long drunken shpeel about how he's been begging the kids to come down forever, and when they FINALLY come, the motor won't start.....and how I had SAVED THE WEEKEND FOR HIS FAMILY ! I wasn't getting away from there until I took every bit of it. He 100% insisted. So a 15 minute service call netted me $1700.00 and a customer for life. abkeenan Posted August 11, 2021 Author Posted August 11, 2021 Not gonna lie.....I've pulled the "kill switch head scratcher" before. Also have pulled the "it's still in forward gear and won't start head scratcher". But this time it is NEITHER of those. fishinwrench 1

A bad wire or connection popped loose on the 3 minute run from 86 Park to the dock. That's the hope anyways. The onboard charger has been acting funky too and not charging one of the 4 batteries like it should (starting battery). But I pulled that and charged it off a charger til full and that still didn't do it. So it's not the battery. It's in the wires somewhere and hopefully not a bigger mechanical issue.
