Watched Dave Whitlock tie deer hair poppers one day years ago when he worked at BPS. He made it look so easy and  when it came time to trim them , it didn't require much razor work at all. Those look really good.

Those look good. 👍

For whatever reason the ZC never made the cut for me.

A big hunk of Marabou instead of the matched mallard flank.....and it's game on.

I tied some wooly sculpin as well wrench . They seem more in line with my style of fishing and basically match what you are saying. Sort of like an oversized bow river bugger

Try packing and stacking next... Maybe a popper or a diver ...

Hard to beat a deer hair popper or diver. But I sure don't like tying them. I did it long enough to get good at it and then quit. :)

Man do I hate working with deer hair. Messiest stuff around. Can't think of anything worse in fly tying.

Nice bugs...Dave Whitlock did a nice deer hair bug but the best deer hair tyer I ever knew was Jerry Jarosik.  He used the Wapsi production method of tying deer hair. It gives you better results than the typical 3 wraps and spin most folks use...It's in the Wapsi beginning fly tying manual, and the old Wapsi production fly tying book. I have a copy of that book in my collection someplace. Jerry also tied the worlds best Humpy dry fly, and the worlds best beetle pattern. Miss him.
