Flysmallie Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 I understand what you guys are saying, that the poor conditions of the job drive people away. But what I’m saying is that there is no shortage of trucks on the road. Spend enough time driving up and down the highways and you will see the number of trucks hasn’t changed. So obviously something else has changed. And it wasn’t “closing” a pipeline that didn’t exist. I don’t buy the younger generation BS either. I always hear that they don’t want to work hard. But I have surrounded myself with a large group of younger people that do work hard. Do all younger people work hard? Definitely not. But neither do more mature people. Even some veterans have been shown the door because of poor work ethic. I’m not doubting any one else’s experience, but from my own experiences I realize that something else is different. One thing that I have noticed is the appearance of the younger crowd. And I think that is a lot of what keeps them from being able to land a decent job. It hasn’t been that long ago that we weren’t allowed to hire anyone with visible tattoos. Well when you get desperate that stuff goes out the window. I recently hired a young lady that I wish I had 50 of. Early 20’s. Smart as can be, highly self motivated, works her butt off. However my supervisor about passed out when he met her. I hadn’t warned him about her tats or pink/blue/blonde hair. She’s going to end up managing one of my locations someday soon. Nick Adams 1

There are very few that will work jobs that require shifts other than days with weekends off. The world runs 24x7x365 and that’s the rub. Benefits and salary are not enough to entice the majority of good young talent beyond those parameters. tjm 1
jdmidwest Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 I went thru the drive thru today, ordered a $3.69 meal and a water. Total was $6.73. "How do ya figure that?" "I gave you a deal because you ordered a drink." Finally paid $4.23 at window. Gotta do the math. They can't. C store in Doniphan wanted to charge me $15 for a bag of ice and a soda. Took about 15 minutes to get them to figure that one out. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Mitch f Posted October 4, 2021 Author Posted October 4, 2021 If someone tries to do their job, young or old, I will support them to the end. I also have young kids myself and when I see a young kid “being a kid” at a restaurant, I try to see my own child in that position and give them a break. I’ve seen some young kids that are mature beyond their years and have extraordinary talent. They just lack experience. They need to grind it out for a few years and pay their dues…it will help them immensely. Terrierman and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
tjm Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 What is the reason for having a minimum wage law? If it is not meant to provide a means of living and if those jobs are not meant to provide a living, why pay the workers at all? Let them be interns, eh?

But it seems there are many making a living off of government assistance. Why would they want to work if they make more sitting at home? Employers took a risk and started their business, Covid darn near ruined many businesses. Without these employees no one would have a job anyway.
