Hula grubs?

When and how does one fish them?  I don't use them but might if I new when where and how they work.  I have lots of Gary Yamamoto hula grub skirts and a friend who no longer fishes with me talked me into buying a twin tail grub mold.  All of that stuff is gathering dust as I can't get myself to use them instead of a Zero or a TRD.

I've done well on them. Dragging or hopping them with a big jig head. But I don't know much, especially compared to you.

When you say big jig head is that fishing the deep like a regular bass jig or are you stirring up silt like a craw might?  What time of the year is that?

The jig head that Mitch Fields designed for their HD craw is a super head for a Hula grub.  

I cast them right up to the shoreline and "count the rocks" all the way down the bank.   Just a very slow steady drag.

I've done well on them at Stockton, TR, Bull Shoals, and some of the creeks. I have not thrown them much of late. There is no reason that they wouldn't still be effective.

They work well on river smallies...

They are great spinnerbait trailers as well, especially the single tail.  Dragging them has always worked best for me in early spring on chunk rock banks.

Yes. I've also used them in the creek/rivers with a standup head. I remember reading at article from the Yamamoto newsletter once about 1/2 oz football heads.

I don't bass fish much in the winter, so my experience would be spring and summer. But I imagine you've forgotten more about bass fishing than I even know, but it's one of my confidence baits for what it's worth.

Thanks for the replies.  I have several gallons of plastisol and a lot of time on my hands.  I just might make up some as I will soon be going to Stockton a lot more than Table Rock.

We had a phenomenal couple of days using a dark smoke with copper flake. I also have done well with smoke and purple flake. Watermelon red, Green Pumpkin, and Black Blue in low light conditions.
