Ryan Miloshewski Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 Been MIA fishing and without a computer the last two weeks. Hit Lake of the Ozarks with my cousin and grandpa and then Truman with Hunter Bowling. LOZ had a ton of fish around condo docks near the dam area, but they are fairly small. Had to weed through a lot of 9 to 9 3/4" fish to get some 10-11 inchers. They were shallow and on various sides. No rhyme or reason. We caught a ton of fish. Truman was Truman..tons of fish in creek mouths and moving half-way back on the Grand arm. We used Livescope to find active fish and dropped a jig or minnow on their nose. And you had to. I would say 1 out of 10 fish we dropped to, even with a minnow, ate. The fish were in 15 fow or less. The ones above 6-ft or below 12-ft would not eat at all. Some we fished for, for five minutes and nothing. Biggest was right at 16-inches, a male. Most were 12-14" fish. Not really fat, but they all had shoulders. Now, back to reality starting today.. nomolites, FishnDave, dpitt and 5 others 8 “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
Seth Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 For whatever reason, I tend to catch much nicer fish the further up the lake I get on LoZ. Glaize to the dam is good for 9-10" fish with a few nice one mixed in. Our size increases dramatically once we reach the Nianguas and move on up the river towards Truman Dam. Not sure if it's due to less pressure o what.

And I wanna say that it has been that way forever. I don't think I've ever spent a day crappie fishing in the Niangua arm, but I would expect it to fish similar to the Gravois arm.
Johnsfolly Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 @Ryan Miloshewski I'm glad that you were able to take out your grandfather for some fishing fun! I hope that when my grandkids are old enough that they are willing to take this old man out fishing. Sounds like even though you had to cull the smaller fish that you had a great time on those crappies! Ryan Miloshewski and Daryk Campbell Sr 2

The Niangua fish tend to get nicer for us the closer we get to the main river channel. The further up the Big/Little I go the more Gravois/Glaize like it becomes. I've caught some really nice fish on the Gravois, but never very many of them in one outing. Honestly I don't care if I catch a limit of 9-10" fish or 11-12". They all make a pretty good turd.

The fillet off a 12-13 incher isn't any bigger than the fillet off a 11"er. They just have bigger heads and tails. Seth 1

As much as you like to post stolen internet photos I'm sure you wouldn't pass up the opportunity to take pics and brag about your latest bucket of fish. But for the life of me I can't recall a single report as of late. Just pics of you when you were like 12 or something. 🤔 fshndoug, Seth and Lvn2Fish 1 2
