fishinwrench Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 My dad had a bit of pneumonia, when x-rayed they spotted a smaller than dime size spot and brought it to his attention. After they informed him of it he swore that he could "feel it" (typical hypochondriac 🙄) so after he beat the pneumonia he elected to let them operate to see if they could remove it. Once inside him they couldn't find it, so they just sewed him back up. He worried himself sick about it, literally stopped doing everything and died 8 months later. (From WHAT..... we'll never know). Had he just blew it off and went on with his life he'd probably still be here today. Doctors aren't always right, and aren't always successful. The only ones left to sing their praises are the ones that survive their procedures....and lots don't. Many of those who don't would have been way better off had they just been left alone. And many who are "fine"after a procedure would have been just as FINE had they never had it. Personally, in the past, I have passed on having knee surgery, shoulder surgery, and eye surgery.......and I currently have no knee, shoulder, or eye problems whatsoever. Our bodies have pretty amazing healing capacities, if you just have the patience to allow it to happen. Other (all?) people who have had knee/shoulder/eye surgery are never "100% right" again, and it's a constant ailment/disability for the remainder of their life.
Quillback Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 I'm perfectly happy with my new knee, I could barely walk on it before I got it replaced. snagged in outlet 3, nomolites, Nick Adams and 2 others 5

I’m right there with my hand, not to mention the stroke I had 6 years ago. During the shutdown I had to wait months to see my hand surgeon. I had 3 fingers on my right hand that were basically locked due to severe trigger finger. When they reopened he fixed them and I can hold a rod and fish again. Anecdotal evidence from some guy around the bend just doesn't cut it. Medicine isn't perfect, but I'll take my chances. BilletHead and Terrierman 1 1

Right now it is hurting so bad just to go. Not sure what Insurance cost my wife takes care of this. I really don't know what I would do without her. She got cheaper Insurance left mine the same because of the Cancer. Plus she drives me. Didn't know about the Cancer until they checked. Got some other that I have to check out. oneshot snagged in outlet 3, Quillback and Nick Adams 3
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 I had crushed cartilage behind my big toe. Could barely walk until my buddy a foot surgeon convinced me to have it fixed. Once he got done I wished I would have had it done sooner. I’m somewhat like @fishinwrenchbut boy I was in a lot of pain before he fixed it. Hobbling around on a concrete floor at GM for 10 hours a day on the assembly line had me wore out. fishinwrench 1
Gavin Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Anecdotal evidence is usually worth less than you paid for it. One data point and therefore it works this way cuz dimwit Peepaw said so. People want to believe it, but it’s a mind virus. Listen to others is a good trait for survival, but the good advice gets accepted with the nonsensical stuff. It’s how religions, politicians, and advertisers rope you in and play you a fiddle. bfishn 1
