I wasn't being snide.  I was just wondering how you would bug out and use your knife against another person if you can't even go fishing.   Seems like fishing is easier than that...   No?

As far as hordes.  I thought I made it clear I don't buy into that.  I just want to have enough things to get by in case of an emergency.  You know, like a Boy scout.  Be prepared.

My knife phase never passed.  It is alive and well.  Heck they might be my "currency" in the apocalypse.  A good knife or two and good are might buy a lot.  Knife fight is a horrible idea, about the only guarantee is you are probably gonna get cut - bad.  I have often contemplated purchasing one of the various spears, because well why not since I don't have one.  Dang now I gotta go look up some spears.

I ended up in a knife fight at a kegger when I was 20.  Some guy that just got out of prison crashed the party.  I was sitting on an AC unit in the backyard when he demanded a beer without paying.  I told him he could have one and smashed an empty michelob in the side of his head.  He shook it off and pulled knife on me.  I ran to the front yard with him flailing away at me with it. 

A guy walked out the front door to see what all the yelling was about and he got stabbed twice in the chest.  I went by a garbage can and grabbed the lid and hit him frisbee style right in the forehead.  He did not go down.  He only became more enraged.  He then jumped in a MG Midget his buddy was driving with the top down.  I reached out to grab him off the car and he swung and punched the knife through the palm of my hand and sped off.  Actually it was brass knuckles with a knife blade on it.  That's the last fight I got in.  

Important side note.  I got more action from girls than you could imagine.  The story got around that I got stabbed in a fight and the girls just fell all over themselves to get with me😁...

I think the correct term of "knife fight" involves two people with knives.  You were assaulted with a knife.

A knife can be used in self defense if someone is in the right frame of mind to realize that he has been cut.  But it takes alot of cutting to make it lethal.  And they have to know that they have been cut to stop the attack.  Drugs normally hamper that.  Guns are better stoppers.
