fishinwrench
The problem with some of the older good knives is that while they may keep an edge longer......it is a genuine process to restore the edge when it does get rounded off. And it most certainly will, even if you are only cutting skin, hair, or trotline cord. I have come to truly appreciate knives with edges that can be brought back into service with just a few strokes across a rock, or the corner of a file handle. Plus, they are inexpensive enough that I can carry 3 of them if need be.
jdmidwest
America made knives are getting harder to find. Gerber still makes them here, at least some of them. Leatherman too for the most part. Japanese steel is fairly good, I do own a few Cold Steel knives also. Lynn Thompson came up with some good designs. It was my first tanto blade. Great for piercing and strong blade, but poor for utility. I have a SRK that I like, one of the older carbon steel ones. Blackie Collins made many good designs and they were incorporated by Gerber. A G Russell out of NE Ark is a great designer and supplier. I love the local guys also. This guy makes some nice ones. https://www.facebook.com/criswellholler/ MOPanfisher 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. oneshot 1
Church give me a Case pocket knife for Father's Day year ago. I'm not impressed by it but use it a lot. oneshot
Members T.J. Clarke
2 of my favorites happen to be from France of all places. 1) the classic "Douk-Douk", still made by hand with the same old tools, in old factory, rich history in Algeria civil conflict, just a very cool inexpensive knife 2) Opinel folding wood handle picnic knife, award winning design, classic. Hawg
I’ll put this here. This guy is great. Hell go out and compare and test just about any tool on the market that the viewer suggests..
MrGiggles
My experience has been that good pocket knives never stay in my possession very long, and the cheap ones stick around forever. So I carry a $5 Ozark Trail. Few swipes on some rough concrete and it's ready to go. My hunting knife is a CRKT. Their stuff used to be pretty good but I don't know if that's still the case. I was given a ceramic kitchen knife for Christmas last year, it's sharp, that's for sure. Not sure if I can resharpen when it gets dull though. bfishn 1 -Austin

Great Eastern Cutlery can be hard to find and it's a little expensive but 100% USA made with upgraded fit and finish compared to Case. Buck is mostly USA with their cheaper lines being imported. A lot of Spyderco is USA made. A fellow just has to pay attention. I'm mostly OK with Taiwan, but no way do I trust anything from China. Gavin
Will have to revise. Think my 8” cheap Cutco chef is the knife that gets used the most around here. Not the best but no worries if my wife or daughters toss it in the dishwasher. That’s probably happened 5 times a week for the last 20 years. My hands know that knife. It’s thoughtless, Terrierman
JestersHK
I converted over from gerber EZ outs to Spydercos and haven't looked back. They are a US patriotic company that makes great steel and some pretty awesome knives. I have had thumb hole knives my whole life and cannot stand the thumb stud knives for quick one handed opening and closing. I'm currently using a manix 2, kids got a native, and I just picked up a PITS titanium as a lighter summer option. Was gifted an older Q HK branded knife too.
