Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 8, 2022 Root Admin Posted August 8, 2022 Yeah. Travis and I had a private conversation. It didn’t. Hook mortality. I told him it happens. I killed at least one rainbow last week using a dry fly, maybe 2. Hooked deep in the gills. Nothing I could have done about it. Both on one cast too. Daryk Campbell Sr and BilletHead 1 1
Travis Swift Posted August 8, 2022 Author Posted August 8, 2022 I haven't answered because I'm embarrassed about it. But honestly there was nothing and I mean nothing I could of done differently. Based off how it was hooked it was a foregone conclusion before it got in the net basically . I tried for over 30 Mins to help it to no avail. I did everything right in my eyes but it happens. Before anyone on here gets up in my grill about it please know that no one feels as bad about it as I do. I caught an even bigger one a couple years ago and successfully released it and even got it on an underwater camera which can be viewed on Trout Hollows website if anyone cares to see it. Sucks and basically ruined the experience for me. On 8/3/2022 at 4:45 PM, Phil Lilley said: Any details? The rainbow was 25 inches and 8.2 pounds caught in the short creek area mid day full sun 106 heat index.. Go figure? Bass.. One close to 7 the other 6.5 down lake obviously. Brown was 19 inches at dark in the Branson Landing area, caught 3 nice browns that night. Gumboot and Daryk Campbell Sr 2

Travis my friend, There is absolutely no, and I mean no reason to feel bad about this deal. Fish will die of something sooner or later of something. For every one of people like you that try hard to release one to grow there is twenty that mistreat and kill without remorse. Another thing these fish are stocked here for use. If there is a legal season for a fish and if someone wants to harvest it there should be no reason for it to be questioned. Nice fish and I have no doubt it was well utilized. fshndoug Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Travis, I hooked a nice walleye while trolling tonight that had a mortality problem. nomolites 1
navery Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Trout are a stocked non native commodity. I do believe in conservation and taking care of a fishery, but you and many others on this forum go above and beyond that with your fishing at taneycomo. Don't be discouraged. Think of all the ones you have released successfully and keep on fishing. The fish i fish for(see pics for reference) have a much higher mortality rate than yours, but i still keep some to eat and share with friends knowing they will be replenished. JestersHK Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Bummer T, but don't feel bad about it. I know that you did your best, and gave it the best chance, but it happens to all of us. Thank you for your efforts, I've watched people drag fish all over the rocks at the outlets, and have had many a nice fish float by me due to mishandling... Daryk Campbell Sr and Quillback 2
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 9, 2022 Root Admin Posted August 9, 2022 Like I told Travis, I killed a nice rainbow last week on One Cast throwing a dry fly. Hooked it deep in the gills. It was bleeding real bad when netted. Cut the line and let it go. Didn't swim off well. Probably died. Caught another 2 days before that - same thing. But this one didn't bleed. Cut the line and it swam off. May have lived, may be not. It happens. The only way not to kill a fish is to not fish. JestersHK, grizwilson and BilletHead 2 1
Bgctrading Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 I hope.you took it home and enjoyed eating it. If not then it truly is a bad deal.
Members walleye4butch Posted August 11, 2022 Members Posted August 11, 2022 Travis I lost a brown last year over 9 took it to Phil and they had it in their tank 7 hours everybody thought it would make it but it didn’t it leaves you with a bad guilty feeling but like everybody says it happens don’t beat yourself up just be thankful for the fishery we are lucky to have.
