Frog fishing

I only use power pro braid without a leader. I remember Beck saying that fish hit the a-rig with those heavy wires so don’t be afraid to use braid. I can have as many bad days fishing braid as I have with fishing mono or floro.

Me and ol' Bo went round and round a few times on this subject. Sure miss him.

Did an article on finesse fishing once with the late Ricky Green on DeGray Lake in Arkansas. We fished timbered bluffs on the lower end of the lake in April, when most of the fish were postspawn. We did some experimenting with 10-pound test down to 1-pound test (yes, not sure about now, but in the 1980s, Trilene made its XT (blue box) line in 1-pound test.) There was a marked difference in the number of bites we got by reducing our line size to 6 lb and then even more of a difference when we switched to the 1 lb. test.

There are points for and against light line fishing but for me, I'll always be a light-line proponent.

I will not throw a frog on anything except Braid.  I think 65 lb braid is likely overkill. I am unsung 65 lb braid right now, but only because  WalMart was closing some PowerPro out. I think I paid 8 bucks.
30 lb would most likely be plenty.  I use 30 lb braid for flukes (with a 15 lb fluro leader) and Chatterbaits with no issues yet.
gosh, I love frog fishing.

I went through a time where I fished a buzz frog a lot. Like most of the time for a couple of years. Never used anything more than 10lb test, but I wasn't fishing around any brush or stuff to get hung up in. I think where I was fishing, braid would have had a negative impact on the amount of bites I had.

I'm such an idiot... when I first saw this thread title, I thought... weird time a year to go frog gigging.  LOL

Thought the same thing.

AGFC had aTV show, it kind of comes and goes, but one show I watched a few years ago they were literally fishing for frogs.

Bullfrogs are a problem at fish farms and they have to control their numbers, so on this show, they rigged up a pickup truck with a board hanging off the side like a diving board.  They would slowly drive down the berms around the fish ponds and there'd be a guy sitting on the end of the board and he would be hanging just about over the bank.  He'd see a frog and dangle a fly over it using a fly rod and those frogs would fall for it and end up as frog legs.

Caught a lot of frogs as a kid , with an old cane pole and the red cellophane from Dad's cigarette pack.
