I have no quams to anybody who would like to mount their legal catch or kill at all.  I have 1  24.5" Rainbow that I caught at 15 years old that I would love to have refinished or fixed.  It has been on to many moves and has lost color and has broken.  It was not well done to start with 28 years ago so you can imagine.  I also have 2 Deer done. 143" gun kill and a 130" bow kill.  I have several also that I have done the Euro Mounts on myself. As well as this years to be added to the Euro wall.

I've wasted allot of money on crazy stuff. I have a pretty high bar for mounting fish.  I have 2, an old skin mount of a big crappie or of LOZ, and my brownie from a few years ago.

I will say my replica of my brown exceeded my expectations.  Repros can be done right,  pricey but worth it to me.

We have club rules on mounting deer, so if you take a buck you're committing to mounting it... still waiting on last years to hang.

In the end it's about the memories.

I think I am done mounting fish. I caught a 6.5 lb native LMB when I was 9. My folks had it mounted for me for my 10 th birthday.

FWIW, I have never seen a repo that looks as good as a properly done skin mount. The skin mounts don't last very long though.  I'm seen truly awful skin mounts of fish and pretty bad repos. Maybe I just haven't seen the really good repos in person.

I can agree with this.

Aside from my penchant for easy cleaning and easy painting of walls, and my aversion to being surrounded by death;  I always feel like the mount/replica owner got skinned.

You just have to stop catching giant brown trout and stick with 25 inch fish or less to keep down your taxidermy costs 😉😁

I hopefully have gotten past the stage of mounting and keeping big fish. I have 5 on various walls dating back to 1983. That fish was a 12# rainbow that the taxidermist somehow messed up and I ended up with a reproduction. Got several other PB's mounted including the big brown from Bennett in 2003. That's the last one that I've put on the wall and I've been told by the wife that anymore will include building an additional  room to the house.
