Brian K. Shaffer
All kinds of birds... Eagles are majestic - those white birds are a nuisance - but the herons are just mystical... Bird Up! tjm
The black eagle in the last image is often found in RRSP. Do you have grackles at Taneycomo? I've always thought fly fishing is better when grackles and swallows are working the area. Kingfishers and bank swallows are interesting with their tunnel nests, bu, I imagine there are no high banks there for them to use as nests? Seth
We watched a couple eagles get it on across from Lilleys on the bluff Saturday during the Masters tourney. First time I've ever witnessed that. I wasn't sure if I should keep fishing or stop and take my hat off like the national anthem was playing while they finished. 😁 slabseeker, Daryk Campbell Sr, tho1mas and 8 others 2
Brian K. Shaffer
They are an everyday January occurrence on the Taneycomo river... we are so lucky... Hilarious Seth! Being color blind... birding colors are not easy for me, however, nothing is as striking to me as a red cardinal. I do see them if the light is right. Terrierman
This is going to sound weird but I kind of miss those massive Turkey Buzzard rookeries, foul though they may have been. Those black ones are just way too good and way too mean to ever co-exist with Turkey Buzzards. Love Herons, both the blue and green ones. They seem just way cool to me. Well, most likely the same reason we are being infiltrated with armadillo. They are becoming used to the cooler climate or that climate is becoming warmer. The planet has been in cycle swings for millions of years. May get warmer, may get cooler. Bill Babler
The last few years we have had pullets on the ground by the 1st. week of May both at Climax Springs in Camden Co. and here in Stone County. Gobblers are going strong last week of February thru March. I believe lots of these hens are getting bred in early to mid March now. By the time the second week or late season rolls around the breding activity has really slowed where I hunt and I will tell you there’s tons of birds. nomolites and tho1mas 2 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Smithvillesteve
Bill i'm glad you have lots of birds around your area. I am deeply concerned about our turkey population. Field and Stream ran an article about the decline of turkeys in the midwest about a year ago. i really believe it. i just dont see as many turkeys as i used to. A belated happy birthday to you also. we appreciate the valuable info you have given us through the years on this forum.

In northern Stone County there has been an explosion in the last few years. Before we sold the big farm we had over 200 on it. On the one we have left it is common to see over 40 feeding in the hayfield and bull lot. Terrierman
