Bill Babler Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Going to be a huge crowd. They’re talking like 17/18 pounds a day to win it with 70% fishing shallow and 30% using underwater peepers. I’m driving a camera crew on championship day Saturday the 4th. After that, back to the woods. I’ve pilferated 2 small does so far I mean small tender ones. Right at 50 lbs of burger, backstrap and a very few select packages of steak. No shortage of deer on the farm and it’s just covered with young bucks and some older ones that aren’t going to be much. First year I can remember not seeing a buck of 130” or bigger on any camera. Best camera photo was 16 does and yearlings in one pic. The Turkey population is also stupid We’re guessing from camera placement on the 3000 acres we have in excess of 150 birds in 5 separate flocks. We’re up to 15 cameras. Full time job to look at them. Last month we planted 46 acres in Winter rye, red clover, and turnip. Cover crop for native grass that is going to be planted in the Spring. Looks like a zillion eyes out there at nite. Good Luck and post a fishing thought on the derby. What’s your weight prediction and your winner? Champ188 Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Bill, I have to borrow one of your lines about all that "deer farming" work ... I just ain't that mad at em. 🤣
jdmidwest Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 I am coming your way around Turkey Season. Had 2 bearded hens all summer that managed to raise 2 young ones. All disappeared a month ago. grizwilson 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Lvn2Fish Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 I’m going to say it will take less than 45 lbs to win it . Probably a combo of deep and shallow for the winner . I haven’t seen the winning fish up shallow but you can defiantly catch a few doing it. plenty of mid depth fish and deep ones . It will be interesting to see if its won how I’ve been fishing . I really think 17 a day is an overestimation . But if someone finds the right group you could easily have a nice bag . I don’t see them doing it for 3 days though . I bet the winner has a mixed bag in this one .
fishinwrench Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 10.5 lb. per day average. 5.9 for big. Less than a 3lb difference between 1st & 10th Livescoping suspended fish with a hover rig, or some kind of swimbait.

Mean while my little 8 yr old went to the neighborhood pond and used corn of all things and hooked into a 3ft grass carp, he got it all the weigh in before it broke off. He called me, and ive never heard more excitement out of his mouth, it was funny.....He said none of the "Karens" tried to run him off, gotta love those HOA Karens cheesemaster, TRRANGER, Champ188 and 5 others 7 1
Bill Babler Posted October 31, 2023 Author Posted October 31, 2023 Wrench your 5.9 pounder is a great guess but 10.5 a day won’t do it. First day will be 17/18 lbs. to lead. Going to end up around that 42/45 pound mark for 3 days. I’m a horrible guesser, but 10.5 a day won’t do it. Have not been back in the creeks yet but usually those fish are not there till around Thanksgiving. It’s currently taking 14 /15 a day for the locals. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 17.33 to win out of Cape Fair Sunday. Looked like it only took 13.92 in the Solo Pro

But if they do.....CONGRATS !!! 👍
