This is how I figured it as well. If my lithiums lasted 6 years, it would be a wash on the price. That doesn't take in to account the performance improvements and weight savings. If you've never had issues with your 31s getting weak, you could probably go with the 50AH models. They are about half as long and cheaper. A 50AH lithium is very comparable to a 29/31 series lead battery in run time.

I have never had an issue of running out of power during a day of fishing, but I have had to turn up the speed of my trolling motor as the day goes on to maintain the speed I was traveling. Since I went from the 87 48lb Minn Kota to a 2001 68lb thrust Maxxum to my current 80lb Ultrex the battery drain is so much less. My chargers have always given me a % of drain at the end of a day. When I had the 48lb my batteries would be down to almost 25% at the end of the day, my 68lb would be around 45% and now with my 80lb Ultrex I rarely see them below 75% after a hard day on the water and never below 70%. I am talking about 10 plus hour days of fishing and being on the trolling motor all day. I am always a believer in if 50ah will alright and 100 ah is more than enough, if you have it and dont need it you dont have to use it, but if you need it and aint got it you are in trouble.

That's why I went the 100AH route myself. The 50s would have probably sufficed. Now I can go multiple days of fun fishing without having to worry about charging the batteries up. That's handy when you're on a trip somewhere and the hotel doesn't have good access to external an external power outlet.

Everybody crows about how long the lithium batteries last, and how they maintain voltage until they just suddenly die.....but I'm not seeing it.

Sure their performance will TEST good but in the real world......and under a load...... I'm just not all that impressed.

They are DIFFERENT, but the actual usability doesn't match the hype or the price in my opinion.   There's no free lunch when it comes to portable power, that's the cold hard Truth of it all.

I've ran mine hard all day long in riffles chasing summer smallies and during high water while targetting Taneycomo trout. They were still as strong as the end of the day as they were at the start. My lead batteries, even when fresh, would be noticeably weaker by the end of a day like that. I'm not sure how much more real world it gets than that. 🤷‍♂️

So if I am reading this correctly, everyone who responded with the exception of fishinwrench is in agreement that lithiums are the way to go.

I am still not sure which to get.  I would like to keep it at the cost of 2 31 agms and be able to use my MK single bank charger on it.

I certainly don't know of anyone that made the switch to Lithium.......but then went back.   So there's that.

My opinion of Lithium power cells is skewed because I've seen the aftermath results of 4 meltdowns, and so I'm a little scared of them.    The last place I'd wanna be is IN A BOAT during one of those events.   And if I ever am I hope it's during warm weather so I can immediately abandon ship.   Something tells me that you DEFINITELY DON'T WANNA BREATHE THAT SMOKE !!!!!

I really wouldn't want to be smelling the smoke from a lead acid battery melt down either.  Guess we should go back to how most of us started. At least I did by sitting on the front seat of a tiny flatbottom boat. By myself with the back end up in the air. Had a small paddle that never came out of the water as I swept it back and forth sculling from tree stump to tree stump dipping for crappie. Much quieter than any trolling motor. Ahh the good old days. Had as much fun as I do now but sure not as confrontable.

What model is your MK charger? You can use a precision charger set to AGM, but I don't think any of the digital models will work with lithiums. This will also limit you to using 12v lithiums. The 24v and 36v in one batteries requires special chargers for those voltages.

Oh Pffft !

When was the last time you saw a lead-acid battery have an internal short and start sizzling out of control?

If I SCULL real hard I can get back to the time when I saw a lawn tractor get engulfed in a leaf fire, and the battery went "SssSsssttt !"

Very unimpressive 🙄

Thanks there have been many of garages and houses with attached garages burned down for lead acid batteries and chargers.
