Anglers spend too much time worrying about getting that pretty picture than using it to find what they need. My old Humminbird 998 hdsi would still find brush and fish like my newer bird with Mega side imaging, but it wasn't as "pretty". If it weren't for buttons not working on the 998, I'd probably still be running it. Same goes for FFS. I'm using a 10" Garmin with the LVS32 and a 12v lithium battery with my gain set pretty stinking high. Do my images look as pretty as the one you posted? Not even close. Can I find what I'm looking for and does it help me catch fish? You bet your butt it does!

Your outboard will start and move you around with only 3 cylinders firing too.  👌

It won't plane out like it's supposed to though so I wouldn't really call that working. If I can still see my targets and catch the fish, what more do I need from my electronics?  It's no different than disabling all the filters on 2D. You're screen is far more cluttered, but you're also getting a lot more information to the screen versus if you had filters on to make it "clean and pretty".

There was a time when I was interested in reading articles on Bassmaster or Bassfan after tournaments to see how practice went and eventually how the top finishers figured the puzzle out. Not any more

This kid makes some very valid points

My favorite:  is that you used to spend thousands on motel rooms and fuel in order to break down a lake...... EVERY SINGLE EVENT.

Now you spend thousands on electronics ONCE so you don't have to spend it on those things PLUS you don't have to spend all that TIME.

The cost of FFS alone will prohibit  many fishermen from buying one .And like anything else some people are better at using different tools than others. And Wrench you're funny . I can catch trout without fishing outlets and I don't fish mop flies lol.

I know you CAN, but what you can't do.....is resist walking past one without fishing it, and then warming up to some goober there, giving lessons, handing out flys, ect.   And then the next thing you know YOU'RE THERE ALL DAY !  🙄

I ain't knocking you for it, I just don't share your passion for being the Samaritan Flyfisherman & Social butterfly.    I need to put you on a leash so I can keep you from chasing field mice and rolling in dead critters. 😅   Focus...FOCUS !

Maybe a shock collar 👍

How many of you guys actually have the equipment ? Y’all are so sure that it’s the end all be all . Have you put a little time in with it? All the talk of pelagic fish and how this is going to ruin everything . We didn’t even know they were all out there until a year ago. It reminds me of trout fishing. When you can see suspended fish and watch how they react to your different presentations . There are days when a fish runs from a lure as soon as it hits the water . 30 ft down they see it hit the surface and are gone . Other times they will rush it from 30-50ft . This time of year is optimum for FFS . The fish are slower and less likely to move too fast . There are a lot of fish suspended over deep water this time of year. This unit isn’t limited to fishing deep either . You can’t always see the fish especially if they are relating to cover or the bottom . What you can see is the cover and make an accurate cast into it . It’s fun to see a brush pile that looked like it was empty explode into 20 3 pounders . It’s eye opening . All of this being said . I want everyone to just fish the way they want . Where does anyone get the right to tell another angler how to fish . If you like fishing with a tenkara rod and catching micro fish , that’s cool . If you like stabbing them in the back with a spear , go for it . If you like catching suspended bass with live scope and 6 lb line right on.

You don't have to justify what you spent on FFS to us --- just your wife.

Another way to look at is that the scoper will likely catch less fish because he is only going after the largest fish. If they are catching less fish then the overall mortality rates will be reduced. I know that's how it with using Livescope for snagging paddlefish on Lake of the Ozarks. When I troll, we catch quite a few shorts and I guarantee several of them die due to have a big hook ran through their gut. When we are scoping them, we are only catching keepers and saving a bunch of shorts from having a hook ran through them.

So, scopers are doing us a favor by only catching/possibly injuring/killing fish with the potential to grow big? Not saying it's gospel, but I've read before that only about 1 in 10 LM are even genetically capable of reaching 4 pounds. So let's come up with an idea of how to target those fish and further hurt our fisheries? Yeah, that's a great idea.

I don’t really see how you took that from my post . But whatever .

I think you have lost it . Before live sonar no one ever tried to target the biggest fish possible . What a joke . You guys are really reaching for a reason to hate this . But I’ll keep catching 5 pounders with my snotty nose using my gay techniques . You guys can keep complaining on the internet . What a life.
