Seeing them is nice but catching them is an entirely different matter. It’s totally unreal the amount of refusals It's crazy for us that "blind" fish. Think how many times you pull up on a spot to fish and catch nothing and you leave thinking they weren't there. In truth a lot of times they just ignored your junk. FFS just takes the guess work out of the equation. grizwilson and snagged in outlet 3 2

FFS just takes the guess work out of the equation. I have used FFS and played with bass that are suspended, not relating to any cover/structure, and to me it seemed to be mostly a TIMING thing. Like you couldn't get them to bite no matter what you did.....but an hour or two later the same fish might bite anything you worked near them. Seth 1
rps Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Some of you are old enough to remember when old man Lowrance started to sell the green boxes. I heard the same arguments then that I am now reading on this thread. The sonar did not teach us to look for changes on changes ( drop offs with bumps), it only made it easier to find them. Buy all the tech you want. If you do not understand your target species and how they behave, and how to find what they want, you will just be motoring around looking at a screen. SRV1990, m&m, mixermarkb and 1 other 4

First you had to catch fish in a spot enough times to know it was a decent. After that, you always knew it held fish, but that they wouldn't always bite so you'd just have to keep checking it throughout the day and hope you hit it when they started biting. I feel like that is what seperates your more consistent tournament anglers from the rest of the pack. With FFS, you don't have to spend as much time learning which areas are holding fish, but you still have to know when to move on because they just ain't chewing at that moment. You can really tell when a guy is somewhat new to crappie fishing, but has good electronics. They will spend all day wasting their time on a inactive school because they can see the fish. If you're not catching those crappie every few cast then you need to go find new fish. They just can't comprehend this line of thinking when they already have a bunch of fish right in front of them. grizwilson 1

You might have 5-6k in graphs sitting on the bow of your boat but at least you weren't scoping! 😁 I leave my scoping setup at home quite a bit when I'm fun fishing. It's still fun to beat banks and catch fish. It's no different than throwing a top water all day when I know I could catch em better on a shakeyhead. Topwater is just more fun! waterpossum 1

Yep, and staying there pounding away at a group of fish that are not ready to bite, just educates them. Or so it seems. Seth 1

Jealousy sure turns ugly sometimes. And no, I'm not a scoper. Likely won't ever be. Shoot, it's not often that my boat is sitting in more than 40 feet of water.
