Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 1 Root Admin Posted June 1 My first cruise... 10 ports I think in 3 countries. Couple of days in Athens. Marsha, my son Greg and Marsha's sister Shala (Florida). In my old age I don't like to be gone from home and my bed. I'm sure there are those here that know what I mean. But this should be fun. Greg and Shala put it together so all we have to do is follow along. No fishing excursions though... I didn't look for any. Terrierman, BilletHead, Quillback and 6 others 9
netboy Posted June 1 Posted June 1 The Greek islands are beautiful, and the Parthenon in Athens is really impressive. I imagine you will be visiting Istanbul which is also very interesting. Have a great trip and enjoy the cuisine. Lots of lamb dishes over there as well as great seafood and wines. Terrierman, nomolites and Daryk Campbell Sr 3

tjm Posted June 1 Posted June 1 You should have a great time. Greece was my favorite part of the two Med. deployments I made, we stopped in Athens and Souda Bay many times. Wife and I spent 10 days in Athens as newlyweds, so much to see there that even then we just saw the biggest/most publicized attractions. We were warned not get ice in any drinks because they don't handle it as food, supposedly not even made from safe water; but of course that may have changed over five decades. Mitch f Posted June 1 Posted June 1 I went to Barcelona Spain for a business trip and had a memorable experience in both a good and bad way. The Good: got to watch Lionel Messi play in Barcelona stadium The Bad: got darn near attacked by African hookers the entire trip "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

netboy Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Forgot to mention, be sure to try the moussaka and then the Greek pastries, baklava and kataífi (my favorite). They are incredible and readily available in all the street side bakeries for a couple of Euros. One thing that I experienced is that most of the local restaurants in Athens don't open until around 8ish and that is a bit different from around here. Most of our restaurants close around 8. And if you like wine, you need to try the retsina wine. It is a white resinated, wine and the first taste will be "different", but the next glass is better and then the next one is even better.😀 snagged in outlet 3 and tjm 2
