Said they got there about a couple hours early and by sunup they had a dozen people only like 25 yards away from them and people kept coming into the field. Doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me. At least where they were at. They camp all night at Weldon Spring. At least they used to when I bothered to go.

At least where they were at. Not everyone has private places to hunt. Same with the duck parks and trout parks. From what I can tell they do a good job managing for dove and quail there and for other species. I made a trip with @duckydoty one time in the middle of the week. We did pretty good and saw many birds. @curtisce went and actually got a dove band. BilletHead
And again I went this morning. Pat volunteered to work a couple days so I was Solo. A bit slower today and it took me until 10:00 to get the last bird. I was more picky with my shots. One collared dove in the limit also. Shot way better slowing down too. Less than a box today by one shell 😆. 1.6 shells per bird average. Not bad considering that the national average is 5 to 7 shots per bird. Cleanest bunch not shot up so this batch will be bacon wrapped and over charcoal and wood. I dropped three in the pasture with this guy. I had to be careful with him. Members T.J. Clarke
Not the best day, too many excuses. One good thing; I used my childhood shotgun Dad gave me, Mossy 20 ga. from 1971. Brought back great memories. Back at it this afternoon. Big flocks at the house naturally, more than at my plot!! nomolites, ness, Daryk Campbell Sr and 4 others
Ryan Miloshewski
I was in Tennessee for a cousin's birthday party so I missed the opener. You all are making me have severe FOMO. Finally back home today. I may try and get out once or twice, but I am ready for this front and Saturday. Should be a slammer of an opener. “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
fishinwrench
The coolest dove hunt I ever experienced was over the sod farms in Georgia. It was like shooting birds over a golf course 😅 No problem finding birds or chasing cripples at all ! 👍 snagged in outlet 3 and BilletHead
