  1. Iowa DNR puts out some handy trout maps organized by county. You can get those at the visitor center in Decorah and were you buy permits. Decorah is a fun town. River in town looks very smallmouthable.
  2. The UP is some rugged country.. Chased some brook trout up there in the footsteps of Hemingway. Pond/lake fishing is hit or miss. Probably best around ice out. Smallmouth & walleye tend to be deep in the fall. River fishing is usually more reliable.
  3. I can't tell what they fixed if anything. Maybe new stripes and some sealer on the asphalt?
  4. No it is not naive. Permit sales are a minor source of MDC funding (17%). Sales tax is 61.5% and Federal funds provide another 16%. They could cut back a ton of waste and never miss the permit fees.
  5. No tags for me either. There is no way that I’d pay $10 for a 1 in thousands chance at a tag for either. Just another MDC ripoff. Resident tags should be free for everything. The sales tax revenue they collect should be more than enough.
  6. Dunno....Flathead belly, carp, or skipjack might have enough fat to have some flavor on top of rice. Might be a new way to use all that "red meat" that folks slice off of spoonies, and white bass. Thinking sushi made with crappie would have no fish taste at all.
  7. I used to pick up trash others left. Gave that up years ago. More trash the better IMO. It looks little crap on YouTube videos. Hope you get well without any long haul effects FW.
  8. Eagles are just glorified vultures.
  9. Do they still sell breakfast and ice cream? I like breakfast and my daughter’s like to feed the fish and eat ice cream. Only 3 reasons I’d ever have to stop there. The Campground sucks in comparison to others in the area.

    What's Cooking?

Good for you guys!...Brisket just hit 204, and is wrapped and resting. 2 pork shoulders still on, 178 and climbing so a couple more hours for them. Screwed up and carbonized a couple racks of ribs this AM...Still gonna eat good.
  11. Have several friends with Lyme and it’s been hell on them. A course of doxycycline after a tick bite is a good idea.
  12. Got one pit going this AM. Need to light up the other one soon.
  13. DI stuff was only in Boot Camp! LOL! Gotta love Gunny Ermy, he was an Air-wing POG too.
  14. Perfect time to take a chance...No wife & kids, and stuck in a job were your employer treats you like a slave...Felt the same way when I chose to leave the USMC at 25. I hope you figure out what is best for you.
  15. Got roped into a trip to Bass River Resort last weekend. Haven't camped there in 30 something years. Wow that place has grown! Tons of RV hookups now. People everywhere getting nickeled and dimed. Put in up at Berryman with two school bus loads around 9.30am. Laid back to watch the offload and got rolling around 10. Fishing was pretty decent for numbers in-spite of the crowd Not really any competition for bass, since all the weekenders were tossing wee-craws and rooster tails. Toss a bass lure in the spots that floaters didn't want to be and you caught some fish. Guess 25 or so and 3 in the 15-17" range between Berryman and Blunts (all smallmouth). Most ate a Ned and the rest on some fifteen or twenty year old Case fluke knockoff that I found in the basement. It was too crowded and mudded up to fish in most spots between Blunts and Berryman. Oblivious people in rafts piled up and doing stupid stuff. Some of it was incredibly funny, some was stupid but amusing, and only a few that I regret hearing or seeing. It was as expected, and not my problem. Caught a few more on the moldy oldy Case shads and a nice LMB on a Dog X. No Spotted bass or Hybrids so that was a plus. OK day considering. They should up the prices on the showers. I'd pay allot more than 50 cents to wash off after wading knee deep downstream of that floatilla.
  16. Your still young enough to do anything you want. Pick something you like and go for it.
  17. Well bless her heart, maybe she forgot to take her meds.
  18. Those fish must have been really friendly....Both of the sports were pathetic casters.
  19. I'm gonna drink great wine and dress in funny clothes when I grow up https://www.tastevin-bourgogne.com/en/
  20. Try Google Earth and use the historical views...Might give you a better idea regarding camp spots, but the river is different every time you visit. You should be fine as long as the water is not too high...Quick float out then. Good luck.
  21. Kayaks are 6' long sit on tops and they were great little river boats & pool toys when the kids were younger Pickup only in the 63119. $100 takes both boats and paddles. Call me @ Tree1Four7NinetyFiveTreeSevenTreeTree.
  22. Depends on if he uses it or not. Borrowed a friends and killed it a couple years ago. Bought him a new new one to replace it...and borrow it as needed. It's his...HE can store it😄!
  23. Lake development and restocking programs? Well bless your heart❤️.
  24. Interesting fish. At first glance its certainly a hybrid. There are lateral line markings (similar to a largemouth or spot), and horizontal bars below the lateral line (like a largemouth or spot). Not a great pic with its mouth closed, but it appears to have a bigger gape than a smallmouth, spotted bass, or Coldwaterfisher after a liter of Tito's😀. Would have never guessed smallie/largemouth cross.
