  1. Walleye are in the southern part around Poplar Bluff. Deep holes all way down into Arkansas. Access near 67 Bridge north of town should get you started. Troll cranks and bounce jigs works. It's been 4 years since I fished for them but managed to catch a few shorts. River is low.
  2. I shacked up with current number 2 for 17 years. Got married to satisfy her work for family leave for the radiation treatment 5 years ago. 23 years this Jan. Number 2 wife and me number 2 husband. 2 wonderful kids, one each. And 5 grandkids. Number 1 was psycho.
  3. I filter mine to remove capping and bee parts, but it's 100 percent raw. Some producers will pasteurize it before bottling that will affect flavor. Honey has the high sugar content and enzymes to prevent bacteria and make it shelf stable for years. No refrigeration needed
  4. Thats 143 up there. 49 would be coming down the back end out of Des Arc.
  5. There are deeper holes up there than what you see in the park. There will be fish in them. Lots of it will be shallow runs, even a little shutin spot to squeeze thru or pull over them.
  6. Thats a good looking clouser spinner jig thingy you make there. But I bet it is a booger to cast.
  7. The store concessionaire in the Park used to do shuttles. I have used a bored park worker from time to time. The Big Creek Float from Brunot is awesome in a kayak. Run up 49 above the park and float to it.
  8. Fish look good this time of year. Did you float thru or just paddle near the access?
  9. Whatcha slug hunting?
  10. Look at the last big viral release to try and control something, Covid. Let nature run its course.

    Prepping

Tilling old stuff over in fall lets it compost over winter. Planting a green cover crop in late fall then turning it over helps too.
  12. Academy here keeps a few boat trailers out in front of the building. I have never paid any attention. They are for light jon boats in the 14' range. Should be more than enough. You could try FB Marketplace. May find a deal on a jet ski trailer. I bought a little 5x8 trailer from local farm supply a few years back and built a 2x4 rack to haul several on edge. I had old load racks that I had picked up at yard sales and put my Thule J hooks on them. Saved my back a few times and carry 4 yaks when I took family.
  13. I always layer well in the winter. Start with a good wicking layer like poly and add warmer layers with fleece or wool. Outer layers are Goretex to block wind and moisture and breath. Socks are always a poly/wool blend that keep toes warm with minimal insulation in the boots. I could sit on a chunk of ice with my feet dangling in waders waiting for ducks and be reasonably comfortable. Wind sucks, it eats into you. Lots of movement then periods of rest require the wicking of moisture away from your skin to keep the core comfortable.. If you can keep the core of your body comfortable, the rest seems to fall in place. My feet were never a problem, but my hands get cold very quick.
  14. Equipment has made us more durable while pursuing our sports, but still, many die. Those days, waxed cotton or wool that were heavy when wet and did not really keep you warm. Cell phone for a cry for help. Better forecasts that let you prepare for the worst. I have paddled a yak across a lake alone to hunt the ducks on a nice calm morning and have a front roll thru. Lake will turn into massive waves and I will have to think things thru how to get back. By myself. But usually I have enough to keep dry and can work my way around and get back, shaken but not stirred.... But tired and thankful that I did.
  15. The common house sparrow is and invasive species that was introduced from overseas. They are over competitive with native birds and do crop damage. There is no Federal Protection of them and I remember a time when the MDC code for them was "shoot to kill". Don't seem to find it there any more. Animals out of their place causing problems are up to the landowner to dispose of properly. With proper permission of course..... Growing up, we had "Corn Cribs" where we stored the corn cob corn and shelled corn for the hogs we fed. Crows, blackbirds, and squirrels were among the varmits I kept at bay with my trusty ole Crosman 140 .22 pellet rifle. Many of tins of pellets went to the cause. That old rifle was stolen out of the trunk of a car in St. Louis on its way to a rebuild of the pistons. I wore them out and gave it to my uncle to fix it.
  16. They do those "Polar Plunges" around here in the dead of winter. Normally have to bust a hole in the ice for them. Pretty sure that water temp is hovering around freezing temps. Taney has the temp regulated to about 55 degrees when it gets to your place year round, doesn't it?
  17. Good news is the lake water will probably be warmer than the air at that time. Another benefit of a tailwater stream in the winter.
  18. Maggot food, Flies gotta eat too
  19. But, you will still be too stupid to get off road when you see headlights.
  20. Probably got in the water and could not swim, but I am just guessing.
  21. Looks like a yellow royal coachman crackleback.
  22. Jimmy John's, Cape Girardeau MO. 2019. Tuna sandwich. First and last time I ever tried that chain. Eat at Subway all of the time.
  23. How many anchors are in that belly?
  24. I just wanted to see the pics.
