Lancer09 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Tolerant does not mean that you are ok with having stuff the way things are going. As someone whos job is youth and adult sports i can tell you now that even in my rec stuff its the parents who are the problem, not the kids. Parents try to live through their children, or are completely apathetic to them. Thats the problem, most people dont have that middle level.. oh your parents were hard on you? Turns out you are even harder on that kid and what do you know, you get a kid with an oppositional defiance disorder. Hey you had free reign when you were young, so your kid should to... looky there its a child who has no concept of a proper support structure. Society has failed the children of today by not knowing how to raise them. Back to sports. Up to a certain point its ok to not keep score... let the kids learn to play the fundamentals of the game before you work winning and losing into their life. We keep score for all of my games. Your right, they know who won and who lost but i dont keep standings until they get to 3rd grade or so. Why? Because at that point they are emotionally mature enough to understand the concept of learning to win and learning to lose and the ramifications of that if they are taught properly. When i was in high school all of my teachers told us that you basically would never have a good job unless you went to college. Well thats not true all that has been left to us is an economy in shambles with not enough jobs and too many over qualified and not properly trained applicants. There is a reason there are so many college graduates who come out of school with 50k in student loans yet are unable to find a job whose salary is even half of that in a year. I got lucky, my parents worked their butts off and instilled that ethic into my brother and I. I worked 3 jobs in college, got in good and was able to get my masters degree right away, and found a job within 2 months of graduating. Im the exception and not the norm. Even with being as fortunate as i have my yearly raise wasnt even enough to cover the rising cost of my rent to stay in the same apartment for another year. Its a perpetual cycle that young adults have been thrown into, and can you blame a lot of them for being frustrated with how things were run in the past? There is a reason . Look at the very drama that has happened in this table rock forum about keeping bass recently.. are there some younger guys in those convos? Yes. Is it primarily people of the demographic that are now complaining about the youth of the world.. yes it is. Everyone is in the same boat here. Just two different sides of the coin.

Is it primarily people of the demographic that are now complaining about the youth of the world.. yes it is. Everyone is in the same boat here. Just two different sides of the coin. I'm 26 years old with 2 young boys. One is 6 the other is 1. I ngrew up with problem parents my mom had a drug addiction. (Now is a great grandma and mom ans is clean) I remember as a kid wondering where my dinner was going to come from. I didn't know my dad till I was in middle school he spent most of his life in prison. (Now owns his own business and is a amazing father and grandpa). We love the outdoors and spend as much time there as possible. I didn't live the perfect life nor did my parents. But God is AMAZING and has a plan. Guess what I'm trying to say is me and my younger sister (age 21) could of went anyway in life. Didn't have what most people have in early in life parents. She's in college and I drive a semi for a living making 1800 a week. Own my house drive 2 new vehicles and own my bass boat. I try to give both my boys things I never had in life. They never have to wonder what's for dinner or wheres mommy or daddy. All I had and what I truly believe helped guide me and help me was the love of fishing/hunting and those times I got to spend with my grandpa when my mom was in rehab and my dad was just starting to come around. I was taught common courtesy and C&R. I will pass those trates on to both my kids. Which in turn they will pass those on to theres. The moments I'll remember for my whole life will be my oldest kissing the bass and saying thanks for biting my lure and releasing the fish with that big smile. Soon after thanking god. To me life doesn't get much more sweeter then that. Thanks for reading my life story lol. Sorry I just fill there's two ways in life and the love for the outdoors and respecting it will help you take the right path. Sam, magicwormman, huntest and 3 others 6

MOPanfisher Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Here is a crazy story from not too long ago. Note, I didnt see the very beginning so I don't how long if any they spent in setting up. A fairly young couple, 30 or so, large suburban type vehicle, pulling a new Caravelle cabin cruiser looking thing. The man backed most of the way down the ramp with only minor corrections, then got out and climbed into the boat. The woman got in the vehicle and backed it the rest of the way, a little slow and jerky but did well. Deep enough to start motor and let warm up for a few moments, purring lime a kitten, them she backed him the rest of the way in and he back smoothly off the trailer, she parked in the lot and returned to the courtesy dock. The man/driver approached the dock at idle speed at the correct angle, back throttled and steered perfectly enough the woman simply stepped aboard and no part of the boat ever touched the dock. Off they went at idle speed until past the buoys. Total elapsed time maybe 4 minutes. The man was quite friendly and even offered assistence to the jet ski trying to get started next to them. The woman was for lack of a better description "classy". Be aware they do exist, but we might not notice them as they don't stick around long, and they may be coming to a lake near you. fishinwrench Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Let's give fresh new boaters a break for a minute and talk about things us "seasoned veterans" do that needs improvement. I'll open with this one.... When you and a partner return to the dock does your partner jump up and walk to the bow as you are idling in ? Drives me crazy when guys do that. Keep your @ss in the seat until I give you the nod. mixermarkb, crazy4fishin and dtrs5kprs 3
MOPanfisher Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Since I teach it to our employees one thing that I beat them up uver is during docking when the passenger reaches over to grab the dock. Obviously they have never seen a boat take a big wake and crush a hand between boat and dock. Another one I harp on is never approach a dock faster than you are willing to crash into it if the engine dies. Champ188, dtrs5kprs and crazy4fishin 3

fishinwrench Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 why is this a pet peev wrench? Because as I approach a dock I head in at an angle then hit reverse to straighten the boat parallel to the dock. Hitting reverse when someone is standing on the bow stresses me out. Just wait until I bring the boat to a stop....I don't need you to "help me" dock the dang boat! dtrs5kprs and Champ188 2
Flysmallie Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 But if I'm standing on the front there is no reason to dock it. Just pull straight up, I'll step off and you can back up and wait for me to get the truck.
