crazy4fishin Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 What if my name is on my shirt pocket, can I expect any boost in fishing prowess. I suspect that it would depend on monogram vs. patch - and if its your god given name vs. a nick name.....almost to many variables to accurately calculate with out tapping into the Cray super computer. abkeenan Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I don't think $17 bucks is too outrageous for a bait. If it works, it works. Call me lazy but I would rather just buy the darn thing for $17 bucks and call it a day vs making my own. Been there, done that. Most of the time I try to cut corners and make my own imitation I end up with a product that doesn't work as well as the production model from the manufacturer and I've spent more money (and certainly time) on materials and tools than had I just gone to the store and got one or two off the shelf. Like Alex said also, not often you lose a topwater so I don't mind forking over some dough for them. I bought about 8 spit'n images like 7+ years ago in case they went out of production or something.......I still have ALL OF THEM and throw them all the time. Quillback 1
wareaglecamo Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 I agree with Old Plug . . . things have changed . . . now they don't even call them "plugs" anymore . . . When I use to fish with my dad, our 3 favorite "topwater plugs" were the Crippled Killer, Jitterbug and Hula Popper. All three were very affordable to anyone with an average salary. My dad would be shocked to know that tomorrow morning when I head to the lake my 5 rigs have lures alone that total near $100 (including tax of course). . . Megabass Xpod, River 2 Sea Whopper Plopper, Megabass Vision 110, Spro Rock Crawler and Spro Little John square bill shallow crank . . . and I wouldn't even know how to begin to explain to him the cost of braided and flurocarbon line:-(
Gavin Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Look for a Top Raider if you want a larger bait. Think the come in 8 and 9" versions. Very popular for big toothy critters. Thinking $25-30 for one.
fishinwrench Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I like it, it looks like a fun bait to fish, but I'm trying to figure out where I'd throw it. Not over dock cables obviously, and not over wood cover. Burning down a basically bare bank with scattered cover maybe. I'm thinking I could come behind that bait with the ol' Redeye and pick up more bites.
Old plug Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 In a way you all have missed my point. I do not really care what you pay for anything. I have a ruined who bought a rod and reel last year cost him over $800 bucks. He can afford it. But when a someone is married has family to support a home to pay for and a future to contemplate getting the most expensive stuff ( notice I did not say the best always) cause all kinds of serious domestic problems within he family. I look at it this way. I ask her to get married. I fathered my kids. Therefore they are my first responsibility.
Champ188 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I see your point perfectly, Plug it And I see examples of too often. Wife home in a shack chasing 3 toddlers with another on the way and hubby rolling around in a new crew cab pickup pulling a new bass rig with all the toys. I've known a few of these rednecks who were "unemployed" and drawing all kinds of government assistance while actually working for cash when the mood struck them and otherwise spending their days on the lake. OldMillRoad Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 No matter what bait you are throwing, there is a great topwater bite going on right now. The trick is figuring out how they want it. I went out last Sunday morning and caught 11 fish by 11:00 am. , 5 that measured. I was just chucking an ol' Pop R. The big brownies were tearing it up. I know the whopper plopper will work, but so will a bunch of other baits. Chris King, Gavin, Champ188 and 1 other 4
dtrs5kprs Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Was originally designed as a musky lure, then made into a bass lure. Believe it might have been designed by Larry Dahlberg. He dials up some goofy looking baits that actually work. Sounds like a perfect topwater storm. Best enjoy it. Ham 1
