Overall shape, thickness of the plastic, size and weight of the rattle, and positioning of line tie and hook hangers is all that should truly matter.

What is so difficult about reproducing Wiggle Warts ?

I thought I read years ago; that the old original warts were so great; because of lower quality control during their manufacturing? (Perfectly imperfect maybe?)

-

And too; I fear no matter how close to the original old warts; any new ones produced are.............it may prove tough to compete with the 'mystique' that surrounds the old ones.

-

But I'm with Bo on this one; if Iovino can make some new ones that more closely replicate the old originals, at a reasonable price. I'd buy some.:-)

the fisherman is the most gullible of all.   80% of us know it is not the bait, it is the location.  The wiggle wart phoneme is something that is addictive.  I have been there.  But he bottom line is if the fish are in 2 to 10 feet of water and want to eat crawdads, there are many productive baits to catch them.

I'm very good friends with a guy who can fish a Wart as well as anyone, with the possible exception of Dave Barker. He's won half a dozen boats ... maybe more ... in tournaments over the years. He has hundreds of Warts and says there's not a dime's worth of difference in the pre-Rapala and the new Original Series that is on the shelves now. The only bad ones were the ones that Rapala messed up right after purchasing Storm.

Jerry is spot-on ... it's a whole lot more about where you throw your junk than what junk you're throwing.

It does look a bit odd Jerry. I hope he did not have a original and sent it to China and have I duplicated PBS is.

I also go go along with Champ and Jerry. If you like it, believe in it, and use it. Your  chances of catching fish are greatly improved. But when you watch some of these tournaments on TV you I'll see a lot of them using different lures. They  are all using what works for them the best. I do not care if some says thy re biting on something like a yellow wiggle wart. I bet there biting on a lot of other stuff including your false teeth If you can get a hook attached , into the proper range and a decent presentation.

different plastics have different float rates, and also a different sound.  model a bombers come to mind.  i have a few of the older ones left.  number one about the old one, they all run true, and they definitely have a different sound of rattle.  i have about a dozen of the newer ones that just need to go to the trash.  none of them run well, they wiggle a couple of times and then quit.  bottom line is the old ones catch bass and the new ones are not worth a hoot.

i am not saying that you can not catch a bass on the newer wiggle warts.  there are some days that it makes no difference what brand of crankbait you throw.  it is on those days that the bite is not good that a good bait will save your bacon.  as for me, if there is such a thing to actually make the wiggle wart as it was, that is what i will fish.

If nobody had ever told me that WW's went through a transition and the ones on the shelves now we're substandard I would have never known, and would be catching just as many fish on them as I ever did.  But now everytime I tie on a wart there is this thing in my head telling me that something is wrong with it.

Thanks alot assholes !

The last 20 warts I've bought have been pre-raps and I've had them all custom painted... I share your sentiments!

I have a box of old ones that I'd never use cuz they are worth so much....I got a couple of new ones that I like to use and am actually willing too.....for 6 bucks or whatever they are a great crank.  Good trolling baits if you only have 2 lines out.
