abkeenan Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Electronics are so expensive these days they should be like cell phones. They should be able to "locked" to people that aren't the owner and have gps locators built into them whether they are powered up or not in case they are lost or stolen. Until then they are easy scores for easy money for the bad guys. Quillback, crazy4fishin, Sore Thumbs and 2 others 5
vernon Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Man that blows. Been there done that. Several times unfortunately. Hopefully, insurance will cover it but there's always at least some out of pocket expense regardless plus it's a pain in the behind. Best of luck achieving resolution in the quickest and least painful/expensive manner. "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." rps Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Met with the sheriff's deputies today. My Lowrance Gen 2 HDS 10 was the best sonar they got, but they took a $5000 stereo system out of a Cobalt on a different HI dock. The theory is they ransacked boats and laid out what they wanted but were interrupted before they could transport all they had laid out to their transport vehicle. In any other crowd than here I would be embarrassed to admit this, but the sonars they took will be less expensive to replace than the rods and reels they had laid out but not taken from my boat. How is that for looking at the bright side? shark bait, Daryk Campbell Sr, 176champion and 9 others 12
Jerry Rapp Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 just curious, were the electronics mounted on the boat and easily accessible? Did you have a loc-r-bar over the rod boxes? This kind of crap seems to happen every year at most of the lakes where folks keep boats at docks. In retrospect, what are your lessons learned?

crazy4fishin Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Man rps - that really sucks....kinda sick feeling when you walk up to the boat and see your stuff all messed with...mine was broken into this last spring....took electronics, poles and odd and end baits..still today figuring out stuff they took. At least you are looking on the bright side! Why can't folks leave other folks stuff alone! Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker

I know that there is a gate allowing access from land. Unfortunately, water access will always be there. My lesson learned will be to never leave electronics on my boat when I'm on the road ever again. As for locker bars. I would tell someone not to use them. If a thief wants in your boat that bar won't stop them. Even worse. When they pry that locker bar up it damages the fiberglass on the gunnel. Then you have stolen stuff and a damaged boat.
Hammer time Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I feel your pain and agree that rods reels and baits are the tuffest to replace. I had my boat hocked up to truck in drive way, walked out of the house to head to lake and noticed front graph laying on deck and console graph missing. Called local police, them came and tried to get prints with no success. The theives took everything out of front deck compartments! All my rod and reels every bait box, all my high dollar rain gear even my containers of snacks! Front deck compartments emptied! They were locked but easily broke into, no lock bar. My home insurance handled claim since boat was on my property, but 1000.00 dollar deductible and losses of loomis rods shimano reels and countless baits, I took a huge loss, graphs where my least important loss. Checked all pawn shops in Republic and Springfield with no luck ever finding anything. Since that happened I've never left my boat outside!
176champion Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Locks are to keep honest people honest...My boat sits outside in my yard covered and my electronics and rods and reels are in the house. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
