Sore Thumbs Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 It works Jerry. There's a time for mono, a time for FC and a time for braid. There are even times you use all three on the same rod and reel. magicwormman and Mitch f 2

Played the game for several years. Advertising is a great thing for the sellers. Nope. It's strong as log chain. Still what I prefer to flip with. Doesn't help much with finesse stuff ?.

I would just suggest that if you want to minimize costs of buying line, that some should try the lighter tests of Big Game. It won't be for everyone who wants the latest and greatest, but the 4 to 8 lb are just fine in my opinion. I fish with two guys who are into the flouro is the best thing, always trying new lines, etc. and they break off way more than I do. I am not Babler, I am not KVD, I am not IKE, I am not Amart, but the Big Game just does fine for me, saving some dollars for that new secret bait. Sore Thumbs and magicwormman 2

I do change it a time or twoa year.

The main use was for pitching heavy cover with jigs and texas rigs so I wasn't too concerned about the memory. The abrasion resistance was fantastic for that purpose. I've also used 8# Vanish for leaders on my finesse setups, but I don't recall ever having any trouble with it that I didn't have with any other 8# leader. It worked fine there too. I've since started using Seaguar Red Label and InvizX though. The lower memory of the InvizX is nice! I run vanish as a leader on braid or lead on all my trolling rigs and have never had an issue; I have seen it does not hold up well to dock cables, etc. and requires frequent retires. For that reason is have been using Invizx on my jig and plastics rods. Flouro in general requires more TLC in the form of conditioners or respools but I am flat convinced in clear water it catches more fish. Mike dtrs5kprs and Champ188 2

Thought the diameter and feel was about like Maxima or BPS, little stiff and a little over diameter. Didn't like the memory on a spinning reel. The 10# Big Game is a pretty fair little brown jig line on a baitcaster. Used to try saving $ on line, so I could spend more on rods and reels. Have gone almost exactly opposite of that since. Line and hooks are the only real connection we get with the fish. Quillback, vernon, magicwormman and 3 others 6
Nitroman Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 For years I have said & told anyone that would listen, " USE VANISH & THAT'S WHAT YOUR LURES WILL DO " !!!!!!! By far, the worst line I ever used. dtrs5kprs and Quillback 2 Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide
Sore Thumbs Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 I heard Berkely might be in money troubles. They backed way off from marketing and sponsorship money this year. Keep an eye on situation.

But just like anything else there are advancements in manufacturing processes, materials and technologies that enhance the performance of a product. Sometimes a baby step, sometimes a quantum leap. Is there a massive difference between fluoro and mono? Not in my opinion. But there IS A DIFFERENCE which can lead to more bites, more solid hooksets and in the end more fish in the boat. Isn't that the goal when you launch your boat? Fluoro sinks, mono floats. Fluoro is low stretch, mono is more elastic. Transparency in the water between the two is debatable. Depending on the situation those features between the two lines can, and do, play a large role in how successful you are in the way your bait is presented. Lotta ways to skin a cat when fishing but some tools and equipment are just better suited for the task than others. I am not willing to miss out on a memorable day fishing, or perhaps, a fish of a lifetime because I want to scrimp to save $100 a year on fishing line. Pure fishing will be gutted and some of those fishing brands (like Berkley) will just have to take it on the chin. Unfortunately that means layoffs and less sponsorships in the name of saving the all mighty dollar and boosting the parent company's bottom line. Aside from that the line market has become extremely competitive the last decade or so. For so long the only two players in the game were essentially Stren and Berkley Trilene. So many good lines now and Berkley just really hasn't kept up with the times IMO. Trilene XL, XT, Fireline and Big Game are/were staples but that isn't enough to retain or even gain consumers. Seaguar, Sunline, P-Line and various others are just putting out better stuff and it seems like Berkley is content to just sit there and stand pat (Except for Ham's beloved Nanofil). That's usually not a successful business plan. kjackson and vernon 2
