Al Agnew Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Excellent! I sure wish more people would practice catch and release on big walleye. They are one of the very few fish in Missouri capable of reaching world record size, but they aren't all that abundant, and everybody seems to want to keep every one they catch. Their reputation for being such a delicious fish to eat is overrated in my opinion, especially the bigger ones. Crappie and bluegill are as good or better. Hog Wally Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Nice report. Love hearing about catch and release on the meramec walleye. I ate only 2 last year off this river. I'm really liking your catch and release spot technique much more ? BassMaster#1, trythisonemv and mzrealfish 3
Members harber01 Posted March 7, 2017 Members Posted March 7, 2017 I am new to fishing the Meramec and other rivers in the area. I see you are in a boat (not a canoe/kayak). I am fishing out of a 17' aluminum bass tracker with an outboard. I was wondering, where the "Middle Meramec" is considered - it looks like it may be deep enough for me? I know some of the streams and rivers will just be too shallow. I have fished over near Route 66 in Eureka and have no problem with the 5-8' water, but am limited with the shallow rapids at the 44 bridge and Big River mouth. Thanks for the help and nice job on the catch and release.

I think the upper Meramec generally is from the source to the Huzzah, the Middle is from the Huzzah to the Bourbeuse, and the Lower is below the Bourbeuse. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

If you catch a meanmouth, do you throw it on the bank too? Or do you let the interracial ones go because they do have some smallmouth genes in them? trythisonemv Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Are the spots so bad that you have to kill them? Seems wasteful could eat them or something. Haris122 and MOstreamer 2
Flysmallie Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 I think that tossing them up on the bank is a fine. No different than a gigger sticking a smallmouth at that point. MOstreamer 1
