Tuna and salmon based sushi and medium rare ribeye steaks are two of my favorite foods! I'm getting hungry now!

It's funny that these guys pay $1400 to get in the tournament . Then hire a guide, and act like they have done something special when they have a good finish. Very unsportsmanlike like IMO. And I know there are a ton of guys who do it. Pretty sure someone was talking about guiding Mclleland on here a few years ago . LOSERS!

Some of these guys, McClelland included, are fishing to pay their mortgage, light bill and put groceries on the table. As long as hiring a guide is allowed by tournament rules, they are going to do just that if it will help them get a leg up on the competition.

This is not playtime. Can't expect those who are "in to win" to stop short of giving themselves every advantage enjoyed by the guy in the boat next to them at takeoff. If anyone is at fault here for unsportsmanlike conduct, it's BASS for allowing it.

McClelland is a standup Christian guy and a class act ... far from a LOSER.

When I guided I had tournament competitors schedule pre-fish trips quite a bit, but there wasn't anything unethical or unsportsmanlike about it.   They needed to put in a day or two on the lake in different areas and for whatever reason they didn't want to haul their boat here and have all that charging battery and boat babysitting to deal with.  Basically they just needed to ride around, check water color, sample the bite, look at a few fish, and discuss what the bite had been like in the last several weeks.

If you are a competitor that has to buy his own boat.....It is smart to save the hours on that rig whenever possible.

It was never a "Put me on fish" kinda thing.

i hear you on that one.  all i heard was how i found the bass and i did that.  neither ever mentioned or thanked me for basically putting a total of 20,000 grand in their pockets.  did not set too well, when i did it free gratis to help them out.  they are coming back in oct. to fish grand.  since they are so smart and good, i will let them figure grand out on their own.

I'm not a guide and didn't help find fish on Cherokee for the BassMaster Elite last month, but made the baits at cost for a guy that finished very well (top 10). I worked on my own time a few hours ordering, pouring, painting, etc.  Not as much as a phone call from him.  I don't expect $ coming to me or my name mentioned on stage, but a phone call or small care package for my 11 and 7 year old kids would have been nice. Not everyone thinks about those who helped them get there.

Don't take this the wrong way, but possibly the least classy thing to do....Is for a guide to go around crowing something to the effect of  "So and So wouldn't have cashed a check if it weren't for ME showing him how to catch'em".

Whether you got paid or not that's just yucky.   I got paid, so I considered any success they had during the event proof that I did what I was expected to do. No further thanks necessary.

Even when I fished tournaments it wasn't uncommon for me to pre-fish with guys I was competing against.

not taking offense, but when the one that finished 3rd is a pro staff member and did not even put in a plug for the lure company, i don't believe he is helping the company in anyway.  that puts a different light on things.
