I figured Vern would like it:lol:

OK, I hope you clowns are happy now.  After reading this Hitchcock post and viewing the indecent photos, I went out to trim up some bushes around the little waterfall and goldfish pond that I have in the backyard. Well, as if I wasn't paranoid enough already I found three of these under the first bush.

I knew something had been dining on my goldfish but figured it was a coon or something else of a more civilized nature.

Now (and I KNOW one or more of you guys are responsible for this) I have three (or more) eight foot timber rattlers living in my back yard!

Contacting Re/Max this morning and this dump will be on the market before sundown.

Moving to Hawaii or some other snake free state.

Awesome, I wasn't sure you would find them or not.  BTW have you found any of the Burmese Pythons I left.  Biggest was only about 8 feet.

So... I get all the reasons why I should love and welcome snakes. Here's one reason I don't.

As a newly minted pharmacist in August of 1996, one of my first patients was a guy who had been bitten by a snake. Age and boat wakes are killing my memory, but it was venomous, either a copperhead or rattlesnake. Just can't recall which, we have both around Leavenworth.

He had gone out to his drive to work on his vehicle. Hot day in August. Rolled under only to find a snake had crawled under it, possibly to stay cool. Things turned snap snappy.

He wasn't in the pharmacy for the snakebite. He was there because of a reaction to the anti venom. Now, reaction is a super nicely put, dinner table description. In fact, his skin was bright red, swollen, and peeling off in sheets. It made the case or two I've seen of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome look like a mild sunburn.

So, having actually met and treated a snakebite victim, I'll pass on sending any goodwill their direction. Choot 'em.

As a pharmacist, you should know that Crofab which is a sheep based antivenin has almost NO allergic reactions to it. The old Wyeth horse based product had tremendous allergic issues. Almost 50% of ppl had some negative reaction to it.

no one should want to get take a hit from a venomous snake, but in this country fatalities are extremely unlikely and the new antivenin takes 99% of the risk out of using an antivenin.

Serious question from someone who has never been around venomous snakes before...do people keep antivenin at home or in the boat "just in case"?  Does it have a short shelf life?  Does it need to be prescribed?
