Don't mean I'm gonna share though......... It's that sort of intrigue that keeps people saying that I'm "deep and mysterious". OK, nobody ever actually said that but I still ain't tellin'. snagged in outlet 3 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." Are y'all listening to yourselves? You're paying 250.00 extra for some miracle coating that will wipe right off, and the lense will easily scratch with a paper towel....gotta use some special cloth to wipe them off? You are all crazy. Yes I paid a ridiculous amount of money for my RX sunglasses but I also paid nearly that much for my every day glasses. I’m tired of the cumbersome wear overs, I already spend many years wearing contacts and off the shelf glasses and I’m definitely not having my eyes worked on. I look at glasses like a prosthetic, if I needed one for a missing limb your darn right I would pay any price for the state of the art. I also look back at other things I spent way too much money on, vehicles, boats, a good time; they all cost a bundle. My cousin likes his wileyx and they are certified safety glasses b/c of the collision/impact resistance. Your employer might pay for or help with these since they are work safety related. Others in my family like them bc they ride motorcycles and need the eye protection also I have had the same pair of costas for going on ten years now. I Always have them on a lanyard so they don't fall in the water. Dont get me wrong though I have lost upwards of $1,000 worth of prescription glasses in the water though.
fishinwrench Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Gotcha, totally agree and I would too. The point though, is don't you kinda expect some durability with items that come at a premium price? Maybe a replacement warranty like fine fishing rods have. Premium eyewear should withstand the things we active folks do, like getting smacked in the face with limbs, crashing mountain bikes, sweating and wiping off our glasses with a greasy shirt tail. That's what I expect a quality product to withstand.
Members wmander Posted September 7, 2017 Members Posted September 7, 2017 Saw this post and thought I'd chime in. I'm an optometrist by trade, but fishing is my passion. If any of you guys are interested, I have an optical shop in Springdale, AR. Been making custom sunglasses for a fairly long time and could probably steer you in the right direction. With so many lens and frame options these days, it's hard to narrow down. If you have a frame your comfortable in, just some new lenses may be the deal. Lots of folks have a problem with the "fishbowl effect" with RX wrap around style frames. There are some measurement tricks that I've learned through the years that seem to help. The key to good, comfortable, all day wearing sunglasses is minimizing outside reflection, refraction, and chromatic aberrations. I've been a dealer for several brands through the years and now currently carry Smith, Wiley X (safety grade for you hard hook setters), Amphibia (floating), Randolph (American made), and Redbull. Few others. Believe it or not, Redbull makes a solid pair of sunglasses. I currently wear Smith with the ChromaPop lenses. If you TR guys ever make it down to Beaver, stop in the clinic, mention you're an OA member, and I can probably save you a lot of money. I do it "in house" so my savings are passed to you. Cleaning out the closets has turned into "We're having a yard sale". I don't have to be here for that though, so I'm gonna spend Sat and probably Sun on a river somewhere fairly close.
