And so were my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. Further down near the base of my tree were some highland Scott's by the name of Paden who likely fly fished and hunted birds over dogs. They only came here because the climate was to their liking, the trees were taller, the churches smaller, and the property was free. Presbyterian's don't ya know. BilletHead 1

Johnsfolly Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 The fact that we see any after so many get killed on the roadways and Griz's or BilletHead's yards, armadillos have to be one of the most prolific breeding animals on the planet followed by opossums . BilletHead 1

snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Must be some kind of shad kill across the street at Lake St Louis. Eagles showed up yesterday and they only open water is at the dam. And it's loaded with water fowl. grizwilson 1

Griz - that was what we called them in Florida . Travelling south on I-95, we would see a dead one every 1/4 to 1/2 mile from Jacksonville to Miami, a 360 mile trip. grizwilson 1

They know what good eats the ducks and geese are as does the BilletHead's. Of course you see eagles eating road kill and dead livestock on fields, Go figure 2 hours ago, dblades said: I can confirm that dillos' are much tastier then possum, just a little harder to clean. Armadillos are protected and if you kill one protecting your garden, yard, digging under buildings etc. you must report it and ask forgiveness to your local conservation agent. Discreetly dispose of the carcass so as to not alarm neighbors. You may choose to shoot, shovel and shut up too . I once got a double one early morning in the dark with a machete. I can attest it was a bloody massacre. Even with this last cold front we had when sleeping on the porch last week I woke up to shuffling in the front yard leaves. Actually loud enough it woke us both up. I told the Mrs. It was another armadillo. Got up the next morning to find rooting right off the front screened in porch. Normally they are nocturnal but in cold temps you can see them all day trying to find grub(s).
