fshndoug Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 I just bought a boat in October without asking my wife of 38 years.I still work full time at 66 years of age.I can afford it,so I bought it.Looks good with my other 3 boats. She has smoked for over 40 years. It has taken a toll on her health.Heart problems etc.I like to think I have not sent my money up in smoke.By the way she likes the boat.Go get one and enjoy it,you won't live forever. grizwilson 1
joeD Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 No, don't buy one. Once you buy it, you have sunk thousands of dollars just to possess it. Then there are taxes. Insurance . Trailer. Upkeep. Pressure to use it to justify buying it. You think it gives you freedom to fish whenever and wherever you please. Unless your monetary funds are unlimited, this will not be the case. It is actually a drain on your family, if you have one. The admonition of "you only live once" to justify spending is childish . Then again, I wish I had a boat. BilletHead 1
fishinwrench Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 If you're capable of doing quality work, a boat can be a decent investment. Buy them used, fix them up RIGHT, use them awhile, then when you come across another one that you like... sell the current one for more than you have invested in it. I haven't lost a dime on a boat since I was 22, and I've never been without at least 2 of them. Even the 2 that I lost in the tornado paid for themselves. Speaking of which....Who wants to take this Champion off my hands this week? Just needs carpet and a few extremely minor things. I sold the motor off of it and am in the mood to dump the project so I can start on a different one. Boat/trailer/trolling motor/electronics.....make me an offer.
Gavin Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Man wants a cheap boat. Go get yourself a boat, Hundo or a bit more to register. Couple bucks a year in property tax Have bought & sold many canoes over the years, used to be easy money. Buy, fix, float it, flip it if you like one in the back yard better. Not an attractive market now. Old beat up Royalex has a Kevlar price tag now. grizwilson 1
fishinwrench Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Oneshot, look into a Towee http://toweemarine.com/ Not only is it the perfect rig for the places you like to fish, you'd be sitting on something your kids will fight tooth and nail over after you're gone. snagged in outlet 3 1

Hon, I got to go see a man about a boat/gun/dog is all you need to say. Mine does not count fishing rods like Snagged's mom. Remember a convo with his dad telling me not to take more than 1 fishing rod to the car at a time😀! Mine asks about where is mine if I bring less than 6-7. Took him two days to pack for a day trip to Bennett. Many times he would never fish. He would string up 6-7-8 rods and just cast them. That's where I developed my liking for fast action, tip flex rods. My mom had no idea how much stuff he had until he died. Took us two days to get it all out just to see what he had. Probably 10 high end fly rods still in the plastic in addition to all the other rods. What most people don't know, is that he really wasn't a good fly tier. But he had 4 shipping trunks of materials in a cedar lined closet in the basement. Gavin, Greasy B, BilletHead and 1 other 3 1
