Flysmallie, that really sucks my friend.  I never had the pleasure of scruffing Lilly's head but just knowing she wanted to bite Wheat's face off made her a darn good dog IMO.

Get another soon and take him/her fishing.  It will be good for your soul.

Also have another dachshund that is 4 or 5 years old. We aren't really sure on her age since she was a rescue. And we are pretty sure she must have ate some paint chips when she was younger.

dachshunds seem to be that way, some are just fine , some are wacked in the head crazy

How old was she?

Never really new for sure. We guessed she was 6 to 8 months old when we got her. Just like we never really knew what she was. Lab/basset mix is all anyone ever thought. A year ago she was the healthiest thing around. A tumor came up this past summer and it didn't look good so we had it removed. Another larger one came up around Thanksgiving and it was just gross. Chunks were falling out of it. Had it removed but we knew they couldn't get it all. More started appearing and then she lost use of one back leg and struggled with the other. Came home one night last week and asked my wife why she wasn't in the garage. I had been keeping her in there when it was too cold outside and always at night. Wife had let her out earlier in the day to lay in the sun and when I went out she was just sitting in the middle of the backyard and couldn't walk anymore.

On another note. If you live in Springfield and need a good vet you should go to Route 66 Pet Clinic on West College. Dr. Becky is a great person and kickass vet. https://www.route66petclinic.com/

Sorry for your loss.  Dogs are family.  I remember every one I've ever had and there have been a lot.  The only thing that's worse than losing your dog is living without at least one.  There are eight that live here if that tells you anything about how we feel about dogs.

Really sorry and makes me think what it will be like when our "Duke" (14 lbs wet)heads out. 12 years old now and slowing down. But just picture your dog up there running flat out with his ears back and grinning. He'll be waiting for ya. Wow, can't see the screen now.

Flysmallie I am heartbroken for your loss.  I have been through it more times than I like to think about and God willing will go through a few more.  German Shepards, Beagles, Mutts, and right now a Border Collie, you never know for sure when or where the one that captures your heart will show up.  Have had to pick up my purebred german shepard from he road after she escaped and bury her, Had one beagle I had to put down myself, last thing she did was look at me and lick my hand as if to say "thank you".  Dang that was harder to type than I thought it would be.  My wife had never had a dog before, so the current residentify is a now aging Border Collie.  When she goes I may just have my wife put down at the same time.  Enjoy them and never forget that they, like us will only walk this earth for a limited time.
