moguy1973 Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Loons are great. There were a lot on Stockton when we went last year. There will be a big group of them on the water and you'll be heading right for them and then they will be gone underwater. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Came by a loon and he/she looked like it was trying to dive but wasn't going under. I turned around and it did it again. Thought maybe there was something wrong with it or maybe caught in something. after 2 attempts i picked him out of the water. I sat him in the other seat and he just sat there. Couldn't see anything wrong with it so I let him go. Beautiful birds and the feathers up close really strike you. note of caution even though they look docile their beaks are sharp Now, That's a great story! Not too many people have taken a loon fishing. It appears that he was not too happy that you weren't feeding him fish for lunch.

These - I like the 1/0 hook for smaller swim baits like the 2.8 and 3.3. Really sharp hook on these baits. Sold out for the most part, but I emailed Dirty Jigs and they said they just sent a big shipment to TW so they should show up soon. They say they can't keep up with demand. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dirty_Jigs_Matt_Stefan_Guppy_Swimbait_Jig_Head_3pk/descpage-DJSGH.html Ham 1
Quillback Posted April 10, 2018 Author Posted April 10, 2018 Went back again today with a buddy, took two of us to catch around 50 today. Fish were a bit scattered today and they bite was slow until about 10 AM when they started showing up in sunny pockets and points. No really big fish, but we probably got a dozen of the 4 variations of Bass (Mean, smallies, spots and largies) that were over 15". Mike caught a smallie that was about 3 lbs. on a jig and that was our big fish. We caught some really nice, fat spots, some may have gone 2.5 lbs. Keitechs, in 3.3 and 2.8 were working and we got several Ned fish. Caught 2 nice crappie on a 2.8 on a 1/8 oz head, wish I could pattern those crappie but they are just random. Water temps were again in the 51-54 range. Saw 55 in one spot. A meanie and a smallie. Johnsfolly, big c and cheesemaster 3
Quillback Posted April 10, 2018 Author Posted April 10, 2018 Forgot to mention, Mike snagged some line today, pulled about 40 of it in and son of a gun if it didn't have an original Wart tied on. One of those red craw/orange belly patterns. He didn't want it, so now it is mine. LD Fisher, snagged in outlet 3, mixermarkb and 2 others 5

I like the look of the Berkley 1/2 heads, but I have not fished them. I have fished the Lunker City heads with swim baits and I am very Happy with the results. Both of those products are available at TW as well. I really appreciate the companies that list the hook size in their Jig Head descriptions. All of them should to help us make informed purchases. I have the Keitechs but I’m don’t think I have the 2.8 or 3.3. I do have some swim baits I’d love to do a comparison fish test to see if it is the Keitech or just a good bite.
