fishinwrench Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 One thing that helps to keep in mind is that even though all these tournament guys try to look "professional", they are 98% amateurs. So by demanding them to act professional is simply asking too much. It is like an auditorium full of children, drinks are gonna get spilled, a bunch will pee their pants, and the place will be a total mess afterwards. It's just the way it is. gurzik, liphunter, snagged in outlet 3 and 5 others 7 1

I fish a couple river clubs and if somebody is being a jack leg and giving us a bad image, we would want to know so as to let the problematic angler know that they need to cut the crap or get out. tjm, Bushbeater and DADAKOTA 3
tjm Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Even if they are amateur anglers, the problem was with boating safety/etiquette. It really indicates a need for revocable boat operator permits more than anything else. The fishing tournaments did not create the idiot operators nor turn them into rude behinds; the tournaments do give those people an excuse to be there and a seeming 'open pass' to be on their worst behavior. Have you considered that most automobile accidents leading to death are caused by amateur drivers? Highly regulated and permitted, but, amateurs still.

TableRockBoater Posted May 11, 2018 Author Posted May 11, 2018 I have heard back from HP. Nice and courteous. When there was Water Patrol, lake residents had an informal working relationship with them. They would let us know when people were stealing gasoline or fishing tackle from boats in slips. We were eyes and ears for them, since they couldn't be everywhere. Thanks to lake residents' reports, bad hombres' got caught. All I'm asking for is a narrative speaking about courtesy and respect. Like I said before, that is not a popular concept among some right now, but that will come around. Karma is a female doggy.
MOPanfisher Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 I think everyone is in favor of courtesy and respect.. But no way to legislate it. As I have mentioned before I have seen and met with some of the friendliest guys fishing tournaments and a few butt heads. Also met a few butt heads who simply owned a fast boat and never thought twice abut zooming into a small cove or crowding out someone already fishing. Same things as boat ramps, lines in the grocery store, etc.etc. there are plenty of jerks who will always stick in our minds, and, I believe way more just plain old good folks who we just don't notice, because they don't cause a problem for us. Aren't most of the tourneys charity deals like a golf scramble?? I had this neighbor that told us all he was a pro fisherman. But he had a real job and only fished on weekends. I kept asking questions and sure enough he was just fishing these charity tourneys. No where near a pro fisherman. He was no different than me playing a church golf tournament but I don't call myself a pro golfer. cheesemaster 1
