I am currently in a freshwater management class and I need at least ten people to do a survey for my assignment. If you could please answer my five questions it would be appreciative. Thank you. 1. In Connecticut (Connecticut River), there is a creel limitation on carp. Do you believe there should be one ? What about in your area? 2. With this regulation, the limitation of common carp is 5 and trophy is 1 with a 26 inch maximum. Do you think that this is fair? 3. Do you notice a significant abundance of capturing carp, that in which we need to conserve and protect them? 4. On a scale of 1 to 10, What would you say is the importance of protecting common carps? (1= no importance at all, no change needed in protecting them ; 5 = I see a difference, we could do some things to protect them ; 10= They need more conservation) (You can pick any numbers in between these three respectively). 5. On a scale of 1-10, How fair do you think this new regulation is overall? ( 1= The regulation does not affect me ; 5= It affects me, but I can deal with it; 10= It affects me and my catching) (You also can pick number in between these three respectively). 1. Local regulations are set by evaluation of the opinions of the people within that location. I do not know if the regulation put in place for CT were based upon a declining population of a fish that they intended to conserve. Based upon those regulations, it seems that they were put in place to develop a trophy management system and not for strict conservation purposes (e.g. maintaining the species). I would not advocate creating a trophy system for carp in Missouri. 2. I personally am not affected by these regulations, e.g., do not live in CT, do not bow fish for or consume common carp. I would avoid using terms like "fair" when describing management strategies. 3. My idea of conservation is the protection of the natural environment and proper utilization of potential resources without adversely affecting the continuation of those resources. In this case you are discussing common carp that are outside of their native range, e.g., introduced species. In my opinion this would not be a species of concern from a conservation stand point. Also the creation of a "trophy" system for carp would not be considered a necessity to conserve this species. I have not personally seen a significant abundance of capturing carp. They seem to be doing quite well over the last 140 years in maintaining their populations without the need of regulation. 4. 1 - I would not advocate for carp regulations in Missouri from a conservation standpoint. 5. 1 - The regulations in CT do not affect me. I enjoy catching carp, but I would not advocate for carp regulations in Missouri from a conservation standpoint. Quillback, Bushbeater and Daryk Campbell Sr 3

Are you the only one in your class that is doing this survey, or are others? I am attending a master's program in Biology from the university of Nebraska. This class is an elective for me. I live in an area in NY that does not have much anglers to question in person. So he said go on these forums. We all have to do a survey for an assignment on a species that anglers deal with. Members petew Posted October 11, 2018 Members Posted October 11, 2018 1. In Connecticut (Connecticut River), there is a creel limitation on carp. Do you believe there should be one ? What about in your area? In Misouri and Kansas we should only allow Bow fishing on the rivers, and then then creel limitation makes sense. Killing land locked Carp is like shooting a fenced in deer. Many of the lakes that have been shot out no longer have Carp large enough in them. 2. With this regulation, the limitation of common carp is 5 and trophy is 1 with a 26 inch maximum. Do you think that this is fair? Very Fair. 3. Do you notice a significant abundance of capturing carp, that in which we need to conserve and protect them? Yes we do the large ones they have lived for so long and killing them makes no sense, like bass there should be a minimum and maximum no kill size. 4. On a scale of 1 to 10, What would you say is the importance of protecting common carps? (1= no importance at all, no change needed in protecting them ; 5 = I see a difference, we could do some things to protect them ; 10= They need more conservation) (You can pick any numbers in between these three respectively). 5 let be realistic - they will never be protected but lets at least conserve. 5. On a scale of 1-10, How fair do you think this new regulation is overall? ( 1= The regulation does not affect me ; 5= It affects me, but I can deal with it; 10= It affects me and my catching) (You also can pick number in between these three respectively). 10- lets save the trophy fish and cull the smaller ones. tjm 1

Joined only to answer this post....interesting..... Wouldn't by the very nature of the size difference between rivers and lakes mean that a river would be more confined than a lake. Especially factoring in for depth? So why are you okay with a bowfisherman being in the river where one boat could seemingly cover larger percentage of the actually livable habitat of that stream vs. the sheer amount of water a bowfisherman cannot cover on a lake(depth). Why just because they have lived so long do they deserve to live longer? Is the only goal catch and release? At what point is a Carp mature? Out of curiosity for all involved.....What level does high fenced operations become not fair chase? What defines that line? Is it 1,000 acres? 10,000 acres? 20,000 acres? Any fenced operation?
