Used to be a Catfish house in my home town, they served corn fed catfish that was absolutely delicious. Never heard anyone ever say differently. There's a pub in Hermann that serves it too, and I'd challenge anyone to take one bite and then not devour the rest of it. The channel catfish out of these rivers and lakes though...... you'd be a fool to serve that up in a restaurant and expect repeat business. snagged in outlet 3 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 The cat at Hobo's at the Legion is awesome. Farm raised and if you want to walk in and sit down a weekend you better get there before 4PM
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 We made a no channel cat rule when spear fishing on Bull. They taste like garbage fishinwrench and snagged in outlet 3 2

Couple the fines with being a "MINIMUM, REQUIRED sentence" to get around namby-pamby, weak Judges and throw in what Minnesota used to do or maybe still does and immediately confiscate, Boat, Motors, Trailer and any vehicle they used in the Poaching incident. Flysmallie Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Went with a buddy a few years ago to pick up a big box of "farm raised" catfish. He got the scoop from a local restaurant on where to get it. It was very good. And it said farm raised right on the box. Right under that it said it was a product of Korea. You don't know where those farms are, and you can't even be sure it's catfish. But it was delicious. snagged in outlet 3 1

They do taste good however. But I'll take a 3 lb. blue cat from Grand Lake over any of them. MoCarp 1

So typically avoid most farm raised fish.
Seth Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Channel cats suck compared to a blue. Flatheads are even better. I grew up eating channels cats out of ponds and still enjoy catching them, but I don't waste my time to clean the nasty buggers unless somebody else just really wants them. Blues and flatheads aren't so fortunate when I catch them. MoCarp, snagged in outlet 3, Ranger520vx and 1 other 4
fishinwrench Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Always wondered what it is about flatheads that make them so tasty. Less scavenging maybe? Everybody says blues are so much better tablefare than channels, but I'm not convinced. If you trim the yellow meat from a channel cat he tastes just like a blue to me. bfishn 1
