fish cleaning

    I can share some dealings with the cleaning of fish that have length restrictions. Wardens involved. At Truman in boat at ramp anchored just out from ramp. Fillet board on side of boat cleaning crappie . Warden comes by and asks how did you all do. I told him and he asked are you done for the day. Yes cleaning and heading home. He said good to go if you are done fishing.  Below Truman dam a couple times. Once on rocks down buy water cleaning crappie and then in parking lot. Got checked no problem. You are asked to throw cleaned fish carcasses back into the water. Last Spring was cleaning walleye caught on the fly rod at ramp after a trip up river on upper Stockton. Warden stopped and we visited as I was filleting fish on tailgate. I was dripping carcasses at my feet because no bucket. When I was done I had messy hands. I asked him if he would watch my wide open truck while I pitched my carcasses into the lake and washed my hands. You bet he said. Back at truck we visited more about stupid things we both had witnessed fisher people do. One other time walleye fishing on the bates county drainage ditch from bank in evening.  It was about the time you cannot possess walleye for the day. Cousin and I were done hauling fish to truck and got checked. He asked if anyone else was still out upriver. Yes I told him a guy in a canoe that had been catching walleye too. We asked him about the law. He told us as long as he had them in the bottom of the craft and not in the water he would be ok.

I’m safe cuz If I gotta  measure it, it’s too small......and I don’t keep blue cats so that slot doesn’t apply.

I noticed that a couple of years ago. That is what my dad had in his boat my whole life growing up so I put one in my boat. I measured it for accuracy before putting it on my boat. I went back a two years ago after having it on there for a year or two and it had in fact shrunk. It no longer measures accurately. 🤨🤔

 

Good thing I also have a metal bump board ruler in the boat.

I love conspiracy theories.  I have one of the Taney stickers on mine.  I’ll measure it when I get home later.  Been there a year and a half.

That's the thing about cheap vinyl decals. They will shrink over time. I don't think the MDC did it to raise funds, more like they chose the cheapest option.

Here is a couple of other facts.  If you and your wife catch a mess of crappie and are legal in the aspect of putting your catches in different live wells as to not combine your catch or party fish that is great. It defines your daily limit.

When you remove those fish from the live well most will just throw them into a net and clean them together.  Wrong.  They need to be cleaned and kept separate even frozen in different bags with name and lic.  You can combine them when they are ready to be cooked but they must be stored or frozen separate.

This is due to individual possession limits that have to be maintained.

Stocked trout is the only fish I clean for my clients with the extreme rare exception of white bass and at time bluegill.  I only allow my clients that are keeping fish to catch their limit and not help with any other companion.  No party fishing... You get what you catch and it is kept separate from any other fishermans catch.  I have 4 compartments in my boat.  I also clean each catch separate and package it for the person that catches them.

On the trout you are welcome to continue to catch and release after you have your limit in the boat.  There is also a no cull law on trout and i give each person the chance to either keep or release.  When it goes into the live well you have been designated to use that day it is yours and cannot be exchanged.

In Missouri you cannot accept or keep fish that a guide or anyone else for that matter catches if it puts your creel over a daily limit.  You may only have a single daily limit

Quick question. I have friends that go out to Oklahoma where there is no limit on the number of white bass for daily or possession. How does MDC look at that. Do possession limits from MO apply even though where they were caught is limit free? They may come home with 300 or more fish.
