Monday had a bird gobbling every time I called and getting closer just to have a guy hunting the neighboring property down the hill from about 150 plus yards shoot him.  Dont know if he was coming to me or him but frustrated with that and cows so called it morning and did some driving around.

Tuesday hunted public land and lucked into a good bird.  Get set up and as soon as I hit the slate bird gobbled directly behind me up on the ridge.  Never gobbled again but about 15 minutes after I heard him fly down he ran out of the woods passing by me at10 yds and went straight to the strutting and kicked its butt.  Didnt strut until after the whooping which in turn I let the Franchi bark and released the #5's.

 23lbs, 10.5 inch beard, and 1 1/8th inch spurs.

Smoked up the breast yesterday for dinner.  Bacon blanketed and smoked with applewood.

Walked about 3 miles Friday morning and could not find a turkey. Got home about 10 and decided to check the field behind the house. Low and behold there was 4 strutting with 3 hens. Didn’t think I stood a prayer, but snuck down the tree line and setup to see what would happen. One gobbler had stayed separated from the other 3 and he eventually decided to walk my way. Could not believe it happened the way it did. 24.5 lbs, 11 inch and 8 inch beards, 7/8th inch spurs. Both spurs would have been over an inch but both were broke off.

Saturday took my son and it was a dream hunt.  The only problem was he missed!  We will be after them again in the morning!

25 lbs 10" beard 1 1/4 " spurs. Heaviest bird I have ever taken. Public land in Missouri. Came in silent, strutting his way to me, at 10:00 am. Love hunting the second shift!

I’d wrap that bird in Blaze Orange Before I walked out with it over my shoulder. I’d hate for some idiot to kill me thinking they could harvest and already harvested bird.

It was for a picture near the truck.

Been a tough year for me. Had a tom come in this morning and was turned the wrong way and didn’t get a shot. While trying to call him back three jakes came in and only two left. At least I won’t get the skunk this season. Hopefully it will be like last season and a tom will soon follow.
