Rapala BX Wake Minnow will wake right out of the box.  Unfortunately they don't have a jointed version so it does not have the snaky motion of a jointed Redfin.

Get rid of the hooks and split rings as the first thing.  They are galvanized Salt water hooks and the split rings are size 5 when  they should be size 2. All that junk weighs a ton and sinks the bait. Use the lightest wire size 4 or 6 hook on it you can find.

If you boil it, its toast, it will completely deform very quickly.

This bait is not designed to be a wake bait.  It is a subsurface crank bait designed to be fished 3 to 6 inches deep.  You fish it like a wake bait however holding the rod tip high and right over it.  As the bait nears the boat start dropping the rod tip but continue pointing at the bait.  You want a slow wide wobble on it right on the surface.  I fish it on 30 pound braid and just throw it out and reel it in slowly.

I fish it on a 7'4" spinning rod and can throw it a mile.

The bait should not be worked, it is just thrown out and reeled in.  If a fish eats it, never set the hook, just continue to reel and he will impale himself.  You jerk it and either you or the bait is done as it is coming your way fast.

If you only bought 2 and one of them works, go quickly, I mean run or drive as fast as you can and buy a lottery ticket.

Good Luck.

Thanks Bill

I fished with it on Friday morning with my Father in Law and I caught a couple of fish on it.  I fished it like you described but I have not changed the hooks yet so if I got to going too fast it would of course dive down a few inches so I had to be careful with it.  I will have to experiment with it some more.  Thanks so much for the info.

There's a jointed version from Berkley that I used quite a bit last year that worked really well. I haven't been to Table Rock with it yet but I will be at the end of this week and hope to put it to the test while I'm down there.

That looks like the bait Murray was using this morning during his rise from 32 to 11 place in matter of just a few minutes.

Exactly Bo.  As you know most folks sit inside where I fish.  And, thats a good thing.  I  always giggle when folks ask me about a fin bite.  I know you have some and  I'm for sure  Champ and Dock have some, but to tell the truth, there are very few fishermen that have any perfect fins. Tim Hughes I'm sure has some, Buster, Sainato , Robbie Dotson, and a few of the old timers, Collier and i bet Tindle, Kelley Powers, Rick Holmgren, Brian Ward and Dan Langly. maybe Mike Sauters.  Tindle probably sold his.

If I remember, I’ll do a post tomorrow on how I modify my jointed Fins. With this technique, I can get about 1 out of 3 to work pretty darn well but the “unicorn Fins” are few and far between. I’m down to one now after losing my second-best one to a friggin gar a couple years ago.

I’m neither the best nor the worst to ever throw one. But Donna and I won over $5k about 8-9 years ago in a 5-week period between TR and Stockton derbies.

In addition to being deadly, it’s just pure-D fun to throw.
